Thankful For Our Many Blessings
Annah Grace is 8 days old today! She is such a blessing in our lives, and we are so thankful that she is here!
I was planning to have a natural birth again at the hospital (like I did with Ian), but I must admit I was really scared about it, having had Ian so recently (and with him being 10 pounds). The pain of the experience was still fresh on my mind, and I was really anxious about going through it again.
When my doctor suggested last Wednesday that I go ahead and induce and have an epidural this time (I was already 3 cm dilated when she suggested it), it didn't take too much to convince me. I decided to do it. And once I made the decision, I felt so much relief!
The next morning, I arrived at the hospital, and they started me on the pitosin drip right away. It wasn't that long before I got the epidural....I felt comfortable for the first time in a couple of weeks. It felt like I was sitting in a warm bath. I got sleepy and took little naps as I contracted. The only uncomfortable side effect of the epidural was the itchiness- I got all itchy all over in different places and scratching did nothing to get rid of the itching- but it was much better than the alternative!
About an hour after the pitosin, the nurse said that the baby's heart rate was dropping a little, so she asked me to shift slightly to one side and put on an oxygen mask. I wore the mask through the rest of the labor, and it helped keep Annah's heart rate up the rest of the time.
After a few hours, I was at 10 centimeters, and ready to push. I pushed through three contractions, and without much effort, she was out! Just like that.
She started crying immediately as soon as she was out, and the nurses laid her on me and let me admire her for a while before she got her bath. She was 8 lb 11 oz, and so beautiful!
Here are some pictures that my sister, Jennifer Blake, took of Annah while she was still in the hospital (she is very talented!).

I just wanted to let you know that I directed a lady to this blog who lost her second baby today.
I told her you wrote about miscarriage. Maybe you can post about your book again.
Congrats on the sweet doll baby. I bet your older daughter is happy to have a baby girl.
