Minimalism Challenge - 10 things

Okay, here are my things for the 10 thing challenge!

1. Old telephone

2, 3, and 4:  Three boxes full of vintage magazines that I was going to sell on Ebay years ago. I never got to it and they've been sitting around ever since.

5.) 2  personal video players we found at a yard sale.  They still work great but we don't use them.

6.) A blanket I made for Noah to replace the one he lost years ago.  Even though the blanket looked exactly like the one he lost, he never loved this blanket or would touch it. He knew the difference-thumbsuckers always do. lol

7.) 3 sheets

8.) Breastmilk storage bags

9.) Quilting book- this was an awesome book but I don't use it.

10.) 2 hot glue guns

I got extra motivated yesterday also....I pulled every single item of clothing from my side of the closet and decided to remove at least half of what I owned.   I have already reduced by about half already, amazingly.

Until I pulled it all out of the closet, it really didn't look like much at all.  Sitting on the couch it looked like so much more.   Look at how much clothing there is here. How much of this do I REALLY use?  How much of this do I REALLY need?

I got rid of two baskets full of clothes, which filled a Hefty sack, then I counted the hangers- 64 items of clothing in all were removed!

I wish I had taken a before picture of the closet but forgot to before putting them on the couch.  Here is an after picture-  Before, the clothes reached all the way over to the other side, and I had to push to get more clothes into the closet. Now there is plenty of extra space!

Now, if you'll look at the picture above, you'll notice that I have the hangers on the opposite way. I read somewhere that you should hang all of your clothes with the hangers facing the other direction, then, when you wear your clothes and hang them back up, put them on the correct way.  After a month or so, you'll see which clothes you REALLY use, and which ones you don't.  That makes it easier to minimize again.     I think it's a terrific idea!

Lisa O., from Living the Dream blog, has been inspired to do some minimizing of her own after reading my recent posts.  She made three excellent articles that you might be interested in reading - they will inspire you!

Cool Bethany! I just gathered up at least 12 kitchen garbage bags full (the 13 gallon size) yesterday of stuff I have been meaning to sell but don't have the time. I REALLY have been needing to get rid of it. I don't know if I'll get to take pics before the people pick it up today, but we'll see!

Well, I got rid of more than ten things this week, but they included a few kitchen items- bowls, coffee mugs, plates, food scale. Also another bag full of clothes from my husbands dresser, my dresser, and our closet. All of those are now nicely arranged. :p
A digital scale, a couple knick-knacks, a make-up bag, and about 30 hangers. The house is staying cleaner in MUCH less time, and I am more eager to keep it clean since I have a place for (almost) everything now. The last thing to really get organized are my husband's tools in the laundry room. Hopefully we will get that done this week.
