City Mural Progress #1

Yesterday, something that seemed like it was not ever going to happen, finally did!

My husband and I spent the morning and afternoon painting the background white for the city welcome mural I've been planning on since April of last year!

It was a lot of work- and the day was in the 60's (great for February!!) and we worked up a sweat painting, but it was worth it.

Here are some pictures:

Here is what the building looked like before we began working... the whole wall is almost 80 foot long and is 17 foot tall.

It was so great of my husband to spend all day Saturday working with me on this project. Without him, I never would have been able to finish painting this wall in only one day. It was a lot of work, and we're sore all over today, but it's worth it!

We got to spend a lot of quality time together.  I love being able to do that.

The part that was most difficult about this part of the project wastrying to get the paint into the grooves between the bricks.  Our arms were very sore the next morning! lol

It amazed me how hot it got during the middle of the day.  It's February, and only about a week and a half ago, it was snowing.  Then yesterday was hot enough that I wished I was wearing shorts.   That's how Alabama is though- the weather is always unpredictable!

And here is the building after we finished painting the background white.    Can't wait to get started with the next step!

Once I get the scissorlift- I'll be painting the outline and getting it ready to fill it in....I really don't know how long it will take to do, but I hope it won't be more than a couple of weeks.  However, 30 feet long and 11 feet tall (the size of the banner) is a lot bigger in person....I have never done anything that big so I won't know till i do it how long it will take! lol

Here is a photoshop created image to give a rough idea of what we're hoping it will look like when finished:

This week sometime I will get a picture with the mayor and another muralist from our city who is planning on painting another mural this year... our picture and story will be in the newspaper!    I'm excited!
