Living in the Dentist's Waiting Room

That's basically what we've been doing this week!   No time for cooking, drawing, etc...and hardly any time for homeschooling (although we managed to work most of it in).

I posted before about my filling, and the infection I developed after the filling.  After taking a whole round of Amoxicillin, the infection (and the pain) was (and is) still there!   I went back, and my dentists are really scared to do anything like a root canal while I'm still pregnant, yet they say that's what I need. They didn't do any x-rays (for the same reason), to see what's actually going on (the infection is just a guess, it may be something else, like a crack in the tooth)... I told them that I was willing to do one x-ray to see what the problem was, as long as I had the lead apron on...but they didn't do it.

So I was referred to an Endodontist who specializes in root canals...my appointment is scheduled for Monday...I'm just hoping that if it is an infection, it won't get worse and worse (and more painful) before then. Because he'll just be doing a consultation, then scheduling a new appointment for me.  I think the reason they referred me is because he can do the digital x-rays which have less radiation and are safer for the baby.

This week I also took my children to the dentist to get their teeth cleaned. The first day they just got the cleaning and the x-ray...except fo Bonnie who panicked and kicked and screamed till they decided to try to restrain her in order to get her teeth cleaned- I don't know why but she wouldn't trust them- or me- no matter how many times we explained the process and how simple it is.  That day, her teeth did not get cleaned, nor was the x-ray done.

So the next day, she had nitrous oxide...and then had her teeth cleaned and the x-rays done.   It seemed ridiculous to go to that extent for something so small, but it was the only way.  She had to get it done because they saw a couple of cavities in her mouth and they needed to see how bad they were.   I wasn't allowed to go back with her when she had the nitrous oxide, because being around it can cause birth defects to a developing baby, so I stayed in the waiting room.

The first minute she was in there, she let out a scream that I could hear from the waiting room, and that was scary.  I had to just sit there and wait and wonder.  The dentist's let me know later it was because she was afraid of what they were going to do...they calmed her down and put the mask on her and she was able to get through the whole thing just fine - when she got out, she was as happy as she could be, bouncing around and talking about her experience, and saying she couldn't wait to go to the dentist again. What a change!

Caleb had some cavities, and Bonnie did too.  Noah has really good teeth, no cavities.   That day, Caleb had the cavities on the left side of his mouth done. He did really well!

Caleb and Bonnie will be going back next week- he will be getting some of his molars sealed, and Bonnie will be getting a cavity filled.    So I feel like I'll never get away from the dentist offices!

I will be praying that the Lord gives the dentist wisdom. Also that the Lord will help you with your pain and keep your sweet little baby safe.
Blessings to you and your family.
