Fish Aquarium Nearly Finished
The Aquarium that my husband has been building has been functional for the last week or so! It's looking great. He's put several fish in there, and he even built his own filter for this aquarium! (I don't have a picture of that here, but if you go to this link, you can find a pattern where you can make one yourself).
I LOVE this aquarium- it's so clear and it is beautiful to look at. James did a really, really good job on it. If you haven't seen this before, check out all of the other posts about the progress of this aquarium here.

I took a few pictures of some of the fish inside, to give you an idea of what we've got. A couple of the fish swim too quickly, or they hide away, so I can't get pictures of them... but here are a few anyway:
This is one of our Dinosaur Bichirs. We have two of them...I think James said they can grow to be 18 inches long! Right now, they are about 4 inches long. I think they are adorable with their little scales on the back and the antenna on the nose.

Here it is again, with our Convict Cichlid looking at me. Not sure if the one in this picture was the male or the female.

This is our female Convict Cichlid.

Here are some more pictures of the Dinosaur Bichir...

Some other fish we've got are 4 Giant Danios, 1 synodontis catfish, and one brown knife fish.
James still is working on getting the sides and the front cabinet doors put on his aquarium...once that is done and painted, it will be completely finished! Hurray!

What a good job..
It is so nice and clear.
I've been following you posts about the Aquarium, from the start.
I just loved the way it turned out.
You are so lucky
I just could'nt help myself from smiling, because of the Convict Cichlid
that obviously just "love" to get it's photo taken

Both you and James are so talented! How many gallons is the aquarium? Can't believe he built his own filter. Never heard of that.

The filter for an aquarium this large would have been extremely expensive...with him making it himself, we only ended up spending about 20 dollars on it. The filter was really easy to make, and he was finished with it in a couple of hours!
As for the aquarium, I had previously posted that it contains 250 gallons, but my husband has corrected me and says it's 285 gallons!

Bethany,
My husband is VERY curious about the fish tank. The pictures have only made him more curious! He'd love for you to really show the "blue prints" and explain about how to make the filters. (He has a 50 gallon and a 20 gallon-so we totally understand about how pricy they are!)

Linda, as soon as I get a chance, I'll get my husband to show me the link where he found the instructions on how to build the tank. The filter making instructions can be found here

i hope this helps! Will comment again in the next couple of days with the other link.

I love the aquarium. The light sand in it looks so neat! Hope the fish do well for you!

Your husband did a GREAT job. We normally have some fish but haven't for a few years. Seeing yours makes me want to set up our tank again-of course it is only a 10 gallon. I love the dinosaur! We have often had several differnt sharks and when I was a child we even had whale. Fish are so cool and relaxing to watch.
Today is my husbands birthday and I am having a virtual party for him. Please join me in making his day by stopping off and leaving him a virtual present(comment). Thanks!!
