Blueberries Everywhere

I have been telling everyone I know about our blueberries, and that they can come and pick as many as they want free of charge.  So far, no one has been able to come out, and I just wish someone would, because I can't pick them all....there are so many thousands of blueberries that will go to waste that could have been used. I just hope someone comes out before they're all gone!   This year has been extremely plentiful!!

This year I haven't had as much time for picking as I did last time, and had to wait a little while before picking the blueberries myself.  There are so many ripe ones this year, it's unbelievable...even moreso than last year- our six bushes have become so tall we can't possibly reach the top, and they are as wide as they are tall, if not wider.  Every single bush is loaded with too many blueberries for one family to get.    I wanted to do a U-pick farm, but because of many problems that arose, I was unable to do this.

This afternoon, I finally had some time to pick some... I felt so overwhelmed looking at all of them...I kept wondering if anyone has ever invented a blueberry harvester of some kind...it would really be a tremendous help in this case!  lol  My husband and I picked for exactly one hour, and picked SEVENTEEN POUNDS of blueberries in that amount of time.  SEVENTEEN POUNDS IN ONE HOUR.    Just imagine if we did that every day. And we really didn't even make a dent in those bushes!

Here are the blueberries once they were transferred to the gallon sized bags.

I'm going to try to get this many picked tomorrow...if I got this many every day, maybe I actually could make a dent in those bushes, and then I could bring some bags to some people who wanted some but didn't want to come out.   I don't know if we could ever eat this many blueberries.   If only there were more people willing to come and get free blueberries- they are so expensive at the store, it seems like this is an opportunity that more people would want to take advantage of!

It was kind of you to offer to share what you have. I hate to see anything wasted, too. I wish I could get an offer like that from someone who lives a little closer! Even doing U-Pick adds up fast. My family picked our own strawberries at a farm and ended up paying more than it costs to get them from the grocery store!

Ah you're killin' me! I wish I was close enough to come over and pick your blueberries. My husband LOVES them and you're right; they're incredibly expensive. You are in the south though, right? We live in Texas and when we get a bigger backyard I am totally planning some blueberry plants.

I wish I could ship them to people.. unfortunately I don't think that would be possible, but if I could I would send you some!
Next year, schedule a vacation in Alabama around July and come for a visit!

The same thing happened with our garden this year. We planted a ton, and told our friends to just come and pick whenever they had a little time. Well, apparently everyone has been busy because tons of cucumbers, beans, corn, and squash are just rotting out there. I don't even like to go out and see it.

On the subject of blueberries, my sblings and I just found out about an abandoned blueberry farm 30 min. from where we live and have been out there everyday since picking all we can. They are really expensive in stores and I'm so grateful for the free ones.

oH.arh ihh..I wish I lived near your place...I would love to come over and pick some of your blueberries.

But, alas, as you know I'm from DK .
My family and I love to make blueberry-banana-milk smoothies.
I buy blueberries while in season and freze them in small bags.
Then I buy Bananas while their in season, chop them into cubes and freeze them too.
In the morning it's so easy just to put everything in the blender...and enjoy.
