Bonnie's First Real Haircut

I can't believe I actually did it.

I did something I've tried to avoid doing for years....I have to tell you, I have long adored Bonnie's beautiful, long locks of hair.  She has hair I have always thought was gorgeous (my husband too), and so it was very hard to do this.

For the last few years, it has gotten harder and harder to brush Bonnie's hair. I can use all of the detangling spray, and all of the conditioner I want- those tangles and knots aren't coming out unless I work with her hair for an hour or more each time.  And she cries the entire time because it's pulling so hard on her head and I hate doing it, and try avoiding it a lot of the time.

And her hair ends up looking really messy if I don't work with it like that... if I do brush it and take the time to work with it, it looks great, but the next morning, it's all matted again.  She always begged me not to brush her hair.  It was just miserable trying to get her hair looking good every day.

Bonnie has been asking me for a long time, ever since I got my hair cut (It was almost down to my waist before I cut it), if I would let her get her hair cut too...and I kept telling her, "We'll see..."

But finally, I decided to go for it.

Here she is in the chair, with her beautiful hair draped over.  I kept thinking to myself, "I sure am going to miss that beautiful hair!"...

Bonnie was just thrilled about the haircut, and she couldn't wait to see what it would look like.

And when it was over, she was just so delighted with the results.
Look at the smile on her face. She was just beaming the whole way home.

She loved the way it looked, said that it felt so much lighter, and was easier to brush, and just felt great-  She was tickled pink.    And WOW, she looks so much older now.   I can't believe how big my little Bonnie has gotten.

I think that it was a good decision...i'll still miss that beautiful long hair, but I'll probably have a lot of fun with the shorter hair too.   Maybe she'll actually LIKE letting me play with her hair now.

Oh and I came across this picture of Bonnie when she was 4.  Wasn't she just adorable (speaking as a mother who is obviously biased)?

It seems like it wasn't that long ago when she looked like this!   She's definitely growing up.

Bonnie is beautiful and her haircut looks wonderful. My Angelina's hair is long like that so I know your pain. I have cut it before though. It grows fast. I have never ever cut it short or anything, just trimmed it up. But really Bonnie does look more grown up with that haircut! Wow!

I wanted to but the locks of love place will only take a minimum of 8-10 inches. Bonnie got rid of about 5 inches.

Her hair will thicken up now, I promise. My Bethany and Amy had long, curly hair too, but it was thin and whispy. I cut it off to just under their ears (!!!) Beth's when she was 4 (to combat the plague like head lice at the time) and Amy's just a couple of months ago because she kept matting it in her sleep. In each case, their hair has thickened up, and is so much more managable.

I must admit, I cried a little when I cut Amy's hair. While Beth's was more wavy than curly, Amy had the most adorable ringlets and barrel curls. Unfortunately, they were baby curls, and have not returned as yet.

She does look a lot older! Sounds like it was really a positive experience.

I think you can donate shorter lengths to Locks of Love, they just can't use them for hairpieces. They can sell them to offset some of their costs. I've sent in a ponytail once before that was only about six inches.

Bonnie IS a beautiful girl, the long hair was beautiful and so is the short hair, she is just gorgeous! Thanks for sharing. My baby is going to be 30 years old next month and I remember when she wanted her long below the waist blonde hair cut too when she was I think 8 years old. I took her picture too before and after. A couple of years ago she decided to grow her hair for the Pantene people who have wigs made from the hair. She grew it out so that she could have 15 inches cut off. I share your feelings about Bonnie's hair and as you read here, even though I'm now 54 and my baby is almost 30, I still feel the same about her beautiful hair and she's all grown up and on her own. Mom's love of daughters doesn't change much!

I have a little one who gets lots of tangles too. Try rinsing her hair with a Tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar diluted in a cup of water instead of conditioner. It really makes it easier to comb. I have been doing this for my own hair, as well as baking soda instead of shampoo, I am amazed at how soft and shiny it leaves my hair.

If you get DOVE conditioner and leave it in her hair for about 10 minutes then rinse it out it will be so smooth and soft! i just started doing this with my hair, and no more frizz and tangles when i let my hair go wavy!

The Apple cider mentioned above does work wonders. My Mom used to do that to my hair. Another way to keep the tangles under control is to braid her hair before she goes to bed. I did that for years and it worked beautifully. Of course, after the kids my hair isn't as thick anymore so I don't have to worry anymore.

Bonnie so so beautiful and that haircut really makes her look so grown up.
