Bonnie's Second Birthday
Those of you who are Christians and visit my blog will be rejoicing with me:
Bonnie has asked Jesus to save her tonight.
Tonight, after getting back from church, Bonnie asked me if she could be baptized.
I was excited when I heard this question, but also cautious about what she was saying- because I would never want to have her baptized and have her think she has been saved when she really hasn't. I don't want to ever cause a stumbling block in the way of her reaching Christ.
I sat down with her (I would have asked James to be there with me, but unfortunately, he was in Georgia) , held her hand and told her that if she wanted to be baptized, I needed to first know if she had ever repented of her sins and asked Jesus to save her. (I have heard that she had done so in Sunday school, but I wasn't really sure because I wasn't there and I never really heard anything from her about it). She responded "Well, the teacher said it.", referring to praying for salvation...
I explained to her that the teacher can't do it for her. It has to be something that she does herself, from her heart.
Then, Bonnie asked me to tell her how to be saved. So I explained to her the plan of salvation, how she has a need for repentance, and I told her how much Jesus loves her and how He came down from Heaven and was crucified to pay for her sins, so that she could go to Heaven. She already has heard the story for many years now, and knows it well. I think today she understood the significance of it.
I told her that if she realizes she is a sinner, wants to turn away from those sins and follow Jesus, she can ask Jesus to come into her heart and life and save her- and He will. It promises so in the Bible, and I recited many Bible verses which assured her of this. Caleb even added some Bible verses of assurance that he had memorized. She confirmed that she understood that she was a sinner and needed salvation.
She asked me if I would help her to pray, so that she would know how to say it. So I did. And she repeated every word, and as she finished, I saw a mist forming in her eyes. I knew she meant it. I asked her where she was going when she died, and she said, "Heaven", and hugged me. It was a touching moment and I am so happy.

My husband and I were able to lead our youngest to the Lord. Oh what a sweet blessed gift that God allowed you to be the one to lead her to Christ. You will cherish that forever and into eternity!

That is wonderful! It was a sweet moment when my twin brother and sister became Christians (on the same day) They were both so excited to tell me.
We need more of that simple, child like faith. That's what Jesus always encouraged. What a great moment as a mother!
