Organizing a Very Messy Closet
I'm still feeling motivated, and the next thing on my list was to tackle our walk in closet. That closet looks fine most of the time, except for the accumulated mismatched shoes all over the floor, and all of the stuff that I have packed onto the shelves above our hung clothes.
I usually will throw things up there when I don't know where to put them. I'm solving that problem now though- I'm getting rid of them! If it doesn't have a place, it doesn't belong here. (That's my new motto!)
Here is a picture of the embarrassingly horrible before state of the closet-
My husband's side:
My side:

After a few hours of working separating the things that I wanted from the things I didn't want, I had about 6-7 boxes that I could put on our shelves- I labeled all of them and listed the contents of the boxes in a notebook...the rest (about 70 percent of the stuff up there), either went in a bag for Goodwill or Freecycle, or in the garbage. We also sorted through our clothes and took out the ones that we haven't worn in a while or which had small tears or stains that we usually overlook.
I got some of the boxes which I had stored in the sewing room and placed them in the shelves too, since I had plenty of room for them. Here is what the closet looks like now!

My side:

Quite an improvement, don't you think?
We got rid of about 40 shoes... unbelievable! Here is what the floor looks like now (I forgot to take a "before")...the bucket on the left has my husband's shoes, and the tubs on the right have Calebs', then Noah's shoes. Bonnie's and my shoes are on a shoe rack hanging on my door.
...it will be so much easier to find shoes from now on!
P.S. If you've been inspired to do some cleaning and organizing at your home, I'd like to challenge you to post your own before/after pictures and then comment below with the link!

Wow! Wonderful job! Doesn't it feel so good to have that organized?
My family just recently finished cleaning out the garage. It still is crowded but it looks SO much better than before! We have a four car garage, and use one side for the car's and some other things we hang on the wall, (such as crockett mallets, street hockey sticks etc.) and the other side was literally covered with stuff. There was no way to even maneuver through! It feels so good to have that job done and over with!
