Anniversary Gift
10 years ago, my husband introduced to me a very fascinating book. "The Quincunx" by Charles Palliser.
He had owned the book since he was 12, and we read it together when we were 18.
The book is so complex that at the time, there were many, many parts that went completely over my head- but I still enjoyed it immensely. I remember having a hard time putting it down- I wanted to continue reading it throughout the day, wanting to skip lunch and dinner just so I wouldn't have to stop reading. James and I would discuss the book over and over again that year, but over time we lost the book and forgot about it.
When our tenth anniversary was coming up, I wanted to make sure that I got him something that would bring back memories....and the Quincunx came to mind. I went online, found the book, and ordered it on Amazon.com (actually, for only 1 penny!). It actually arrived right on time too.
The book is almost 800 pages long. Somehow James and I will have to find a way to make time for the book- with three kids, it is a little harder to find time to read such a long and complicated book (if you're reading this book, it has to have your undivided attention, or you'll miss so much!)....but I am going to make time and hopefully James will be able to too. (And I think that reading it again after 10 years will help us understand things we didn't understand the first time we read it.)
James really was amazed that I remembered the book- but it was such a special memory for me because it was something we enjoyed together.
Have any of you ever heard of the book or read it?

I remember James reading that, now that you mention it again. I read the first few pages on Amazon.com. I love that old-style of writing. I'll definitely have to try to find myself a copy of that and read it sometime. My favorite book is Jane Eyre-you should try reading that one sometime if you havent already. Its really good, i've probably read it at least 9 or 10 times.

Jane Eyre is my favorite book as well. Had to read it in 9th grade and I've reread it three times since. Absolutely fantastic story!
