Vintage 1956 Dress Pattern Simplicity

I was looking on Etsy.com the other day for a vintage dress pattern, and found this one. I loved it and just had to make one.   When I started making it, I found it was really complicated... at least, for me it was.    I'm sure someone more experienced might have a better idea of how it is supposed to be done!

This dress took four yards of material. James  picked out the polka dot fabric...I think it's cute!  It took me a while, and a lot of seam ripping before it looked good enough for me to wear.   It isn't anywhere near perfect, but I really like it!

(My mannequin is very short, so I had to prop it up on a chair for this picture.  See Bonnie in the background?)

Looks wonderful, Bethany! You are brave! At least you attack the sewing and just take things out when they don't work...me, I avoid and wimp out! HAHAHAHAHA! Great job! I was wondering what you might be creating in your kitchen or at your machine...

Very cute! I noticed the size on the envelope said
"Bust 32 - Size 14". Doesn't the bust measurement sound tiny?

You need to save these dresses for Bonnie when she grows up! She will love them!

Janet, those vintage patterns have different sizing than the patterns today. I used to get really confused, but now I just go by the bust size. I am a 32 b, so size 14 is usually right for me. (I think its most like a size 7-8 in today's pattern sizing).

Hey Bethany, I found your blog not too long ago and I love it. I love to sew as well and have just kind of taught myself so I understand when you say the patterns are hard sometimes! You're doing so well though! I love the dress you made and also the little baby dresses. Keep up the good work!
    Blessings,
    Lori

I love the dress, it is just too cute! I think you are really good at the sewing thing. And it inspires me that I, too, can sew clothes. Right now I'm limited to blankets and aprons!
