I'm Proud of You, Caleb

I have been telling Caleb for a while that if he would memorize one chapter of the Bible, I would buy him a trophy.

Caleb finally found the chapter he wanted to memorize (Psalm chapter 1), and worked hard for a few weeks, trying to get it memorized.

I was originally planning to buy the trophy online, but I happened to find a trophy shop while I was driving alone the other day, so I stopped in to see their pricing, etc.   To my surprise, I was able to get a trophy, and have it engraved, within 5 minutes...and the trophy only cost me $5.00!!   What a great deal!

Here is the trophy- it is over a foot tall!:

And here's what is engraved with.  I forgot to have the date engraved, so I guess I'll write it with a marker on the bottom.

We awarded the trophy to him two days ago, after he was able to recite it to us without tripping up.  I was very proud of him!

From now on, every chapter he memorizes will earn him a medal.   He works well with incentives, so we're happy ro provide them...especially with them being as affordable as they are!

Oh, that's cool. My kids have been trying to figure out how to get a trophy (soccer gives medals). Anyhow, this is a great idea!

What a great idea, Bethany! Congratulations to Caleb!

And I'm shocked at his middle name~the same as my Joseph, whose birthday is the same day as your Bonnie!

Carla, I didn't know that...what a coincidence! The name Ira I would think is pretty rare so it's really surprising!
My husband's middle name is Ira, which is where Caleb got it from.

Way to go, Caleb! And you, too, Mom! I find that one of the drawbacks of homeschooling is a lack of motivation. This is a great idea and will be a very special memory for the rest of his life. I hope he grows to be a tree planted by the rivers of waters and that he will never forget the words of Psalm chapter one.

Bethany, would you be willing to share with me how you added the option to respond to comments? I'm assuming that since you have your own site that I wouldn't be able to do this with a blogger site, but I sure would like it if someone could let me know of any options. Thanks so much!

I actually don't know anything about the other blogger sites but this one came with the option automatically. I use Godaddy.com for my blog hosting account. I wish I could help more!
