Quilting (Floating Star)
I have been wanting to get into quilting for a very long time.
I have about a dozen quilt blocks, all which I had meant for a different quilts but I never got around to finishing because I was just overwhelmed and had no idea what I was doing. lol
I have always admired the beautiful quilts at this sewing shop that is in town. Every so often, when I'm around the area, I will go in and just be in awe at how complex and pretty each one is. There are dozens of them to admire, and almost every week there is a new one...there is also a quilting class every Friday there, but I can't afford it. I would love to have a house just filled with these pretty quilts. There's just something about them, you know?
I finally bought this book called, "Complete Guide to QUILTING" (Better Homes and Gardens). The book is perfect for someone like me, who needs to actually SEE something before I can figure out how to do it. It is filled with step by step pictures, instructions, and has every single basic quilting technique explained.
The more I have read this book, the better of an idea I get of how to do quilting. There is also a great website, "Expert Village", which is full of video tutorials on many different subjects...I was able to find several video tutorials on quilting...and they helped answer SO many of my questions about quilting.
I had been trying to do some very complicated quilts over the last year, but each time...because it involved so many tiny little squares, I quickly lost motivation and found something else to do.
Finishing the baby quilt I made for Jennifer really motivated me because it was such a simple project, so much fun, and rewarding to see the results. So now I have started on a new quilt... I typed in "easy quilt block pattern", and ended up finding this.
I started cutting up the pieces for it, and was amazed at how simple it really is. It took such a small amount of time to cut out the pieces and sew them together. Within an hour I had 9 squares ready, and the next morning I sewed them all together.

It was so simple. I am really happy with this pattern!!
To those of you who have been quilting for a while, can you tell me what your favorite type of block pattern is? Also, if you'd like to share any of your quilts or projects, please feel free! I'd love to see them!

Bethany,
The artwork is beautiful. I grew up with parents who loved horses though we had none. My dad now has about eight though he lives 1000 miles away and we don't get to ride often. My eight year old daughter just adores horses and she and the other three are so glad my brother is getting married so we "have" to go down and can ride horses.
I do enjoy your blog. So glad I found you searching the internet on how to make homemade wikki stix!!!
OK, so you can tell I am not the horse fan my parents and daughter are. Anyway, it is a great drawing nonetheless!!!
OH!! Yes PLEASE, Bethany! It is simply breathtaking.
beautiful!

How pretty, pick me, pick me. We are a farm family and my daughter loves horses and she would definatly love that picture. It would also be a good gift for my father in law. They farmed with mules and even used one sometimes to work the garden when my husband was growing up.
Love you artwork. I am so inspiried when I see your work. I love the one of the Mules . My Grandfather traned mules to help him work in the hills and log wood. that one is special to me. I also love the one of the little girl praying. So special>

"A man skilled in his trade will serve before kings" - paraphrase of a scripture (Psalms?) The Lord has truly given you extraordinary talent. My all-time favorite drawing of yours is of my friend Rachel's baby Annabelle, though - guess I'm biased. She had another baby yesterday (Isaac), so now she'll have to win another contest - after me! I plan to win this one. ;0)

Wow, Bethany!!! This drawing is amazing!!! My parents house is decorated in a Western theme. This would go beautifully!!! It doesnt even look like a drawing... Im speechless. You are a very talented woman!
I found you through Tammy's Recipes and love to read about all of your undertakings. I showed my husband your site and he is in awe of all that you take on as well. We just bought a house on 2.6 acres in North Carolina this summer that has apple trees and a peach tree on it. We also found wild muscadines growing around us in the woods so I made juice out of them and hope to try your wine-making instructions with next year's "crop". I love this mule drawing; you did a great job.
Bethany,
You amaze me! You inspire me to be more down to earth every time I read your blog. Hope I win!

Bethany,
I have alwasy liked your drawing. You are so fast and it turns out so good! I have been working on a drawing of a rose for the longest time. I just cannot find time to draw. I imagine you have to search for a drawing minute. In fact, after watching your blog for the past few months, I know you have a hard time finding time. It seems like you have about a zillion projects going on ALL the time.
Sure would like to see a WIP or two posted to ArtPapa. Anyway, love your work!
I would love this for my father. Beautiful!
