Happy Birthday, Jennifer!

Yesterday and today, I worked on making my first quilt... For my sister's first baby!

Jennifer's birthday is today, so it was perfect timing.   She is also about 9-10 weeks along in her pregnancy.

I think I probably broke all of the rules of quilting while making this quilt, but since I have never made a quilt before, I don't really have any experience! Sooo....please ignore all the flaws...

The four painted squares were done in acrylic paint.     We had some really cute frog/bee/bird patterns (from a yard sale years ago) that I traced then painted onto the fabric.   I thought they were adorable!   They're supposed to be done in fabric, but I thought it would be fun to use paint instead.

And here's the underside...

I hope that, flaws and all, this will be something that Jennifer can cherish for her baby. She told me the other day that she really wanted a baby blanket, so I was determined to make one for her.

Happy birthday, Jennifer!

Great job, and as a fellow quilter I didn't see any flaws either.

Will the acryllics wash out though? That is a neat idea to add to a quilt but I just wonder about it coming out with the frequent washes that quilts and especially baby blankets recieve.

    Bethany,
    Your quilt is adorable!
How's homeschooling going? Any civics classes on the election, or are they still too young?
    God bless!

Thanks Janet! I probably should bring up the election to the kids, but I find it soooo depressing.
I let them listen to radio shows which bring it up, but other than that I haven't really talked about the election much to them.

As far as I know, it shouldn't ever wash out, no matter how many times it's washed. Acrylic seems to be pretty permanent stuff! I have painted fabrics just to test it out, and washed them...and it stays just the same as if I had just painted it. The paints I get are the kind at Walmart in the craft section.

Thanks so much for the kind words!!!

I have seen some of the most beautiful quilts at a local quilt shop, and they all lie flat and don't seem to have any flaws...all the lines are sewn perfectly straight and all of that. It would be nice to be able to do that but I'm sure it takes years of practice! lol!
