Soap Cut into Bars
Here's the Coffee Soap I made yesterday, cut into bars. It'll just need to sit for 3 weeks before it's ready to use. I was able to make about 12 bars. It was difficult to get them out of the cake pan though...I'll have to buy a mold next time. Or maybe use a PVC pipe and make them round. I can't wait to try it. If it doesn't burn the skin on my arms, then I might try selling it.
It smells just like the soap you buy at the store, except with a little bit of coffee scent.

They look great!
My friend makes soap and puts it in the freezer before popping out of tins or molds in case they dont want to on their own.

I don't know if it'll work with soap, but when I bake brownies, I line the pan with aluminum foil or wax paper. Makes it super easy to pull out and cut up.

Bethany- You want to make sure you don't use a metal or aluminum cake pan for a mold, since the Lye is caustic. Also you can do the 'Zing' test on your soap to make sure that you won't burn your skin. Much like putting your tongue on a 9 volt battery, how you get that 'ZING', if you put your tongue on the soap, if you get a 'ZING' it's lye heavy - and could very well burn your skin. If you get nothing except a taste of soap, you should be fine!
And the gal that commented about plastic wrap, you can use that. I also use Non-stick spray (cheap kind from walmart works)
Your soap looks beautiful!!!!
Good luck!

Bethany,
Sorry the soap was filed under kitchen tip Tuesday. I changed it to soap so you should be able to find it now.
You did great on your sushi. WOW

You sure have been busy! I'm so amazed with everything you make.
I wonder if lye would react with silicone? If not, you could try those silicone molds that are so popular and widely available now. They're oven-safe to 500 deg for baking, can be used in your freezer to make "ice sculptures" or in your fridge for molded Jell-O, and more. They're nonstick & can be turned inside out to pop the stuff out.

Thank you all for the great tips! I will try to use a liner next time..and maybe I can find a mold that won't react with the lye.
Thanks for the information about the ZING test too.
Jennifer, I probably can!

Looks yummy! I used to make my own soap a lot - a convenient mold to use for bars is one of the little plastic trays meant for organizing drawers. They come in long thin rectangles that work great...they are flexible enough for you to be able to wiggle the soap out.
