Getting Closer!!
I'm so excited...the playhouse is coming along and is getting sooooo close now.
I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but the kids have been helping me, little by little. Caleb and Bonnie both got to help me put the first wall segments together. They have also been helping me paint.
(Do you have any idea how long it takes to paint lattice? It's ridiculous. lol You can't just roll over it with the paint roller and call it done..no, you have to use a small paintbrush and go over every little part and coat it in paint. Takes forever, and it is messy!)
Anyway, today my mom came over and brought the siding for the floor. We laid down some bricks that we just happened to have around the house, so that the house would be sitting up on them.

Then, we laid down the siding:

Then, carefully, we lifted the playhouse and placed it on the siding.

Here's what it looked like inside- yes, I know there are paint drips everywhere. It is difficult to paint lattice, and it was hot outside, so I rushed.

We put 2 x 2 x 8 furring strips on the sides of the house, nailed them in, and then stretched a piece of twine from one to the other, for the roof...then, we stretched the tarp over the top, and I stapled it on.

And there it is...

I still have to paint the back, and the inside of the playhouse, add the linoleum on the inside, and I'm also planning to add a faux window with shutters...then it should be all done! The kids got to play in it today, and they were having a blast.

Looks great--and I bet lattice is something else to paint--hadn't thought about it until you mentioned it.
So glad the kids are enjoying it!
Blessings!

Jennifer, that's one of the reasons I am building it...I ALWAYS wanted one of these when we were growing up, and we never really had one. It really is nice to know that they will have it and I hope they will appreciate it like I would have!

I like that color too. It's pretty
Good job on the play house. I think it's looks great. I am sure the kiddos didn't mind that it wasn't done yet.
God Bless you.

The playhouse is awesome (thanks for answering my ????). Just one more question - How are you going to keep the spiders and wasps out? Do you get many of those there? I have an awful time with our out buildings and toys. We constantly have to check for black widows (poison) and wasps (ouch!)

My question was similar to that...how will you keep the rain out?

Tia, There will probably be some rain that gets in it from time to time but I think it'll be okay. The linoleum (and the weatherproof siding on the bottom) should help the floor, and the exterior paint should help the outside of the lattice. If not, I can always make repairs in a couple of years!

Tera, I don't think there's any foolproof way to keep them out, but I'll just be sure to check the playhouse every once in a while to make sure no wasps nests are being built. If I do see one, I'll wait till it's nighttime and the wasps are not active, and I will put a little bit of wasp killing powder around the nest. Then, in the morning, they should be dead, and I will clean it out.
We have spiders all over the place..they're in our house too, so we're kind of used to them. As long as there are no black widows or brown recluses, I'm okay. lol

Wow, that is so cute!

That is adorable! I'm sure your kids will enjoy playing in it so much. You've created a good playhouse and good memory in the children by them watching and helping you construct it. It is so much better than just "buying" a playhouse.

I love it Bethany! You and the kids did such a good job. I love how open and airy it seems. It'll be a cool spot to play all summer. You never cease to amaze me!

Hi,
Just found your blog a few days ago. I love all your projects. For the next time you paint lattice, try using spray paint! So much easier and less time consuming!

Jamie, you're SO right! haha half way through the job someone mentioned to me that it might have been easier to use that, and I could have kicked myself for doing it the hard way! LOL
I will definitely do that next time!
