Wondering....

It has been a year since my second miscarriage now.... a year.    I can't tell you how many pregnancy tests I've taken since then...probably a hundred.

Yesterday night, I took one again, even though it is 2 weeks too early to do that, because I have been having LOTS of symptoms that seem to be at the wrong time (usually, I get pregnancy like symptoms around my time of the month).... Like, I've had heartburn...and I even felt nauseous a few days when I didn't have something for breakfast (among other symptoms). I was really wondering about it, so I bought a pregnancy test from a gas station on the way back home.

When I took the test, I was able to see a very, very faint line on the test.

But because the test was just a cheap test from a gas station, I wonder whether it was an actual line, or just a "ghost line", which sometimes do appear on cheaper tests?    A couple of years ago, I had bought a pack of 25 pregnancy tests from an online source, and every single one of them gave me ghost lines..... but to be fair, the lines only started appearing after about an hour, not after a few minutes (you're supposed to throw them away after 10 minutes).  On this test, however, the very faint line showed up within a minute.

I'm wondering if it's possible that I could be pregnant, but I haven't gotten my hopes up, just yet.  I can't.

I will be taking a better pregnancy test later today and I hope that I will find out a more certain answer. If I get another positive I will be going straight to the doctor to confirm it and get appointments set up, so that they can keep track of the HCG count, etc along the way.

I can't count my chickens before they hatch...just gotta wait and try very hard to keep my expectations low!  But I can't help hoping!

Even after the doctor's office blood test said that I wasn't pregnant with my daughter, I still "knew" I was, and I was right. Woman's intuition, I guess. I am very excited for you and will keep you in my prayers.

Bethany, I completely understand how you feel. It has been 19 months since I had my last miscarriage. Every month I hoped I was pregnant and the test were always negative. Do you know what is even more frustrating? Everyone in my family is pregnant. My sister had her baby in January and is now pregnant again. My baby sister is also pregnant, plus several of my cousins and my sister in law. I am very happy for them but at the same time, I am very upset that I can not get pregnant. But I do know that God is in control and when he is ready for me to have a baby I will. Sorry to be so long winded, but in my history of pregnancies(8), even a faint line means positive, if you are pregnant your hcg level is supposed to double every 3 days, so technically you can take one in 3 days and if you are pregnant you will get another faint line or an actual line. I will keep you in my prayers and pray that in 9 months you will have a strong healthy baby.

Oh Bethany! I'm praying very hard for you. It is sooooo hard to be patient and wait when you want to be pregnant so bad! It took 2 1/2 years to conceive my first, more than 3 years to conceive my 2nd, and a little over a year with my 3rd, which I lost at 11 weeks. I understand what you're feeling with the pregnancy test. I really try to be patient and to trust God's timing as I know His timing is the best for me, but it's hard not to cry when we want a baby so bad.
Please know that you will be in my constant prayers! Hugs!

Bethany, I will definitely be praying for you that it *is* positive.

If it really is a faint line, it's probably a really good sign that it's showing up so early.

Do you have a dollar tree in your area? They are supposed to have super sensitive tests. They're not the POAS kind, but rather the little dropper thingy kind like you get online. I used one with this pregnancy and it came back positive *really* quickly.

    I'm praying for you, sweetie.

Oh I know how you feel! Ever since our daughter was about 6 months old, I wanted another baby. Jason and I LOVE children. I can't tell you how many pregnancy tests I took in the 4yrs that followed -- TONS, I know. Each time my hopes were VERY high ... and each time they came crashing down -- well, except for the last time Feb 2008 when it was positive ... then I broke down and cried and thanked the Lord for this awesome blessing lol. I'm 25wks along now.
I'll definitely be praying for you, sweetie. Btw, we always get the cheap tests ...

Hello. Praying for you. My youngest is almost 2 and have yet to obtain a positive test. Was that your test in the picture? If so it looked like a positive to me. I have never had ghost lines and I use the ones from the Dollar Tree. Praying that His will be done.

Bethany, check out www.peeonastick.com . It has reviews of cheap & expensive tests, and the cheap tests fared at least as well as the expensive ones. After learning about that site, I started buying my tests at the Dollar Tree.

It also gives an excellent explanation as to why any result (pos or neg) cannot be regarded after 10 min. There's a scientific explanation for it (which I have completely forgotten).

The bottom line of this is... you are pregnant! No doubt about it. Pos tests are only triggered by hCG, and the only ways to have hCG in your body is if you are pregnant or if you are on fertility drugs (which I'm pretty sure you're not). False negatives happen all the time (early in the preg & hCG too low to detect, even if the baby is fine) but false negatives are *almost* unheard of.

Sad to say, but many women who get an early pos preg test & they worry whether it's accurate, then test neg later, have had an early miscarriage & didn't realize it. It's sad to me that these women are told that they never were pregnant, and therefore, there was no baby. I pray this doesn't happen to you. Please, God, let this baby make it.

Oh, Bethany! I had my son, then miscarried, had my second son, and now I'm pg again. These will be 15.5 months apart! We were so excited for about 2 weeks and then I started spotting .... I spotted super lightly over a week. My midwife told me to take more progestrone. It stopped. I'm having pg symptoms like crazy and I'm still scared to death to really hope. Every twinge makes me panic! We haven't told anyone!

I'm going to have an ultra sound done tomorrow. I'm scared to death but really hopeful at the same time

I'm going to be praying so hard for you!!!!! The prayers I got last week are all that pulled me through it.

My dh told me the sweetest, truest thing. One night when I was panicking, he took me in his arms and told me that the baby was like Jonah's gourd vine. I didn't do anything to make it grow and I can't do anything to keep it alive.

Trust in Him whatever the outcome. I'm praying, Bethany.

    Bethany,

I totally know what you mean about taking so many pregnancy tests. It's torture...the hoping. 100? That's a LOT of tests. Well, when you buy them in bulk I guess you can spare a few by trying the test 2 wks early :o)

I am hoping and praying with you that you truly are pregnant!

    Love to you,

    Bethany -

The first test I took when I was pregnant with Catherine was so faint I wasn't sure if I was imagining it or not. The second test I took was 3 days later and it was still faint, but no question it was there. I went straight to the doctors (no appt - just walked in!) and they started me on progesterone vaginal suppositories - yuck! But I'm convinced getting the hormones early is what helped me not miscarry again. At 20 weeks I started giving myself hormone shots and Catherine was born at exactly 40 weeks. The doctors did alot of ultrasounds and bloodtests, I felt like I was living at their office.

    I am praying for you!

    Bethany,

I am also praying for you. I, too, understand about taking many many prenancy tests and being so disheartened when it is negative. All I can say is if it had a line it seems like it will be true. I think false positives are very rare. It has been 20 months since my baby was stillborn and I am anxiously awaiting a positive test, too. I pray that you have another healthy baby soon.

    Bethany,

Praying for you as you wait for the right time to take another test. With my pregnancy now I had to take 4 or 5 different tests because the lines kept coming up light and then disappearing after a few minutes. I was pretty sure I was pregnant but the tests said something different. God loves you very much and will give you the desires of your heart as you seek him in all areas of your life but in his timing. Thanks for all of the advice and help you have given to me as I walked through the most difficult time in my life last year.

Also, on another note: I was diagonosed (sp?) with gestational diabetes, yestereday. I have to meet with a nutritionist but have not gotten the appointment yet. My doctor told me no sugars, little starches, and no fruit until then. I am starving but have no idea what to eat. Any help out there?

My doctor told me she would talk to me more on my next appointment but as usual when I researched the topic it kinda scared me. She told me it may go away after birth and that as long as we get my blood sugar down and stabalized that no harm will come to the baby. That was not reassuring news esp. with miscarrying last year. I am willing to do whatever to keep my baby alive. By the way I am 29 weeks today.

Any help would be appreciated. shelly

    Hi Bethany
This is my first time commenting... maybe because up until now I was just listening...I found your website following my most recent miscarriage...

On Jan 5th 2008, I had a test called an HSG, which confirmed Bilateral tubal blockage, I was told I could now longer get pregnant without expensive treatments...so I accepted what "I believed at the time was Gods will for my life"...My period was due on January 24th, but it passed and by Feb 2nd I had a confirmed positive pregnancy test but the numbers were low...by Feb 7th I started spotting and by Feb 15th I had a complete miscarriage...I wasn't mad at God, infact I saw his blessing and how much he loves me, I can still get pregnant! and I believe he will honor the promise he gave me and who knows we might both be expecting soon, God willing...I would like to quote Hannah from the bible who said "The Lord is a God who knows" this is taken from 1 Samuel 1:1-2:11...I hope you have a positive test soon.

    Thank you,
    Asia
