Fishing With the Kids
Saturday was a fun day. James and I took the kids fishing- it was their first time ever. They had a blast. We didn't catch anything significant (5 small brim!), but nonetheless, it was an awesome day!
I took this picture of the shells on the ground by the water. This is my computer wallpaper now. I thought it looked pretty.

Here is Caleb trying to put a worm on his hook. He kept telling me they were just too squirmy.

Here is a teeny, TEENY tiny fish that I caught with a lure that was almost as big as the fish LOL....I ended up snagging it instead of catching it with it's mouth (this is actually how I caught two of the tiny fishies I caught). Check out how BIG the lure is up to the fish! LOL:

I thought Bonnie and Caleb looked so cute fishing together on the log:

Here's Bonnie casting her line...from the picture, it looks like she caught a big fish and is trying to reel it in!

Here is James. It was fun standing in the water. The day was not too hot...it was slightly overcast and it just felt so good to be in the water fishing.

This is a tiny little brim that James caught with his hands. I have no idea what's up with this fish's eye.

James wanted me to take a picture of his next fish in a way that would make it appear larger. As you can see, it looks like the fish is big in this picture...

But here, you can see how big the fish REALLY is!

Here's another picture of Bonnie and Caleb sitting on the log....

Here's a picture of the largest fish we caught Saturday. Too bad we couldn't catch a few more this size or bigger. I would have fried them for dinner. I love fresh fried fish.

On the way home, this cute little inchworm was crawling on my leg, and I snapped a photo before brushing it off. lol

This was the coolest part of the day. On the way home, we were passing a wooded area that overlooks the lake. We looked out the window, and saw a deer (a doe) just standing there, right close to the car.
So James stopped the car, pulled over, and I hopped out and tried to see if it was just a decoy, since it wasn't even moving. We seriously thought it might be a decoy, because it didn't move a muscle, just stood there, as still as could be.
The deer let me get within 5 feet of it, then it WALKED away. Just walked, not ran.
I went farther into the woods, and there was another deer (another doe)! I was so excited about this, that I kept going into the woods. James would just have to stay there in the truck with the kids, I thought. This was too much fun.
I went a little farther, and saw, not two, but three!
Then four.
Then five...
Then all of a sudden, I realized there were actually about 8 does, all standing around me. I was so close, I just couldn't believe it. I finally did go back to the truck, but it was so surreal.
I let James come out and take a look too, once I got back in the truck. It was awesome.
I snapped a picture of this doe when we were leaving again:

Bethany, what a BEAUTIFUL shell picture!!! And the kids looked like they were having a BLAST!!! Did you leave Noah with your mom?
I was gonna tell ya, it's possible that some of those Does that you seen were actually Bucks. They shed their antlers and start growing them from about now till June. But they may not have any beginnings of antlers on them yet.
That is AWESOME that you were able to get that close to them! Especially have it WALK away, they don't normally allow humans that opportunity!
And I especially liked James' 'BIG' fish!!! LOL
I always enjoy your posts!!!

Oh I didn't know that about bucks....I wondered why there were so many does! That would make sense.
I'll tell James you liked his big fish! LOL
Oh and yes, I did leave Noah with James' mom.

What Fun! We love fishing, we didn't go at all last summer. It's hard fishing with a baby. Hopefully, we'll get to this year.
We did have a picnic in the park yesterday after church though.
Oh and I hit a great yard sale on Saturday. Two bags of clothes and two pairs of shoes for my daughter and all for $2.00 YEAH!

Looks like you had a lot of fun! I love fishing and I never really get the chance to do it.
I e-mailed a cousin of mine. I might have some more photos of my grandma for you later this week.

There's nothing more relaxing than a day spent fishing. I can't believe you were able to get so close to the deer. That must have been awesome! The deer we see around here are really skittish so we're never able to get close. The only pictures I have are of flashes of their tales as they're running off.

It was really cool! I think that these deer must be fed by people who pass by all the time or something. It was weird that the didn't run away!

I don't fish because I don't actually ever catch any fish. I'm the one who catches turtles, plants, and snakes. So I don't fish if I can help it. But I do love eating it, so I'll let my husband go catch some and cook it for me. Haha! We're going to be going to fish for some tilapia soon, though. There's a lake here in Texas where catching them is unlimited because they've taken over the lake and there are too many. My husband wants to go so bad he can't stand it!

Thank you for sharing. We haven't taken our girls fishing yet but want to this summer. My dh and I used to fish every weekend before we had kids
Love the deer story too! How precious of a moment to be standing near such gentle and beautiful creatures!
