Onion Rings and Homemade Zaxby's Sauce
I have been stuck on cooking posts lately! lol
Yesterday, I fried some onion rings, using this batter recipe from Cooks.com:

The kids and I love Zaxby's sauce, and I thought that would be the perfect taste to go with the fries...so I looked up a copycat recipe, and I was surprised at how similar the sauce tasted to the original sauce!

Recipe:
Yesterday, I fried some onion rings, using this batter recipe from Cooks.com:
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
1 c. milk
2 tbsp. oil
Fat or oil, for deep frying
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
1 c. milk
2 tbsp. oil
Fat or oil, for deep frying
Combine
above ingredients and beat until lumps are gone. Coat onion rings with
batter. Fry, a few at a time, in hot fat - stirring to separate - until
golden.
Drain on paper toweling. Sprinkle with salt. Fat should be 360 degrees for frying.

The kids and I love Zaxby's sauce, and I thought that would be the perfect taste to go with the fries...so I looked up a copycat recipe, and I was surprised at how similar the sauce tasted to the original sauce!

Recipe:
Zaxby’s “Zax” Sauce:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup Heinz ketchup
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
lots of black pepper
Mix together the mayo, ketchup and garlic powder blending well.
Add Worcestershire sauce and blend well. Cover surface of sauce with black pepper until just coated. Blend well.
Repeat process covering surface of sauce with black pepper and stir until blended well.
Refrigerate for at least two hours prior to use to allow the flavors to mingle.

We went out to eat at Friendly's Saturday night and I had some onion rings with that neat sauce. I was going to go searching for a recipe. Now I don't have to. Thanks

Mmmm, I LOVE onion rings!
BTW, the tutorial on the sushi is awesome! I am craving that (ha!) so I'll have to check out our Wal-Mart once the snow stops flying. I think we've gotten like 8 inches so far today!!

I have a question. why is everyone using mayo and katchup and Worcestershire in their zaxby's sauce recipies.
have you not looked on the label. this is what the label tells me under ingredients if someone would look closely.
Original Zaxby’s sauce
Soybean oil,
water,
can tomato paste,
distilled vinegar,
sugar,
egg yolks,
salt,
molasses,
spice,
garlic powder
Off the original package.

The recipe is a copycat recipe so it won't be exact, but the sauce tastes very, very close. Actually, oil, water, tomato paste, sugar, salt, molasses, spice, and garlic powder are technically in this recipe too.

Soybean oil + water + vinegar + egg yolks = mayonnaise
Tomato paste + sugar + vinegar + salt + molasses = ketchup
That's why mayo and ketchup are good copy cat ingredients for this recipe.

Thanks for the recipe. I ate at Zaxby's yesterday and looked at the label and was going to try and copy but you did it for me. Thanks. Will try it out afterwhile. This is much safer especially with the raw egg yolk and you are right about all the ingredients.

Thanks for the recipe. It just saved me from some deadly dull chicken nuggets, which my two-year-old absolutely loves. But, I got a "YUMMMMMMMMMMM" out of him when he tried the sauce!
