February Thrifty Grocery Plans By Ms. Paradis

Ms. Paradis, who is a frequent commenter here, posts at my discussion board every so often about her thrifty meal plans and grocery shopping lists.

I thought it might inspire some people here, and if you like it well enough, I might ask her if she wouldn't mind letting me post these lists here regularly!

Just FYI, Ms. Paradis is feeding a family of four with these grocery plans.

Tia, I'm so sorry. I guess I haven't ever mentioned my discussion board, for some reason on this blog before.

I have actually had it for several years now. It used to be really, really active, but lately I haven't had as much time to put effort into it and the activity died down a little. But the women who are there now are wonderful! You will love them.

It is my hope that eventually someone will come and help it grow. I just haven't had the time to invest in it like I used to!

Is this a monthly grocery list? Where is all the meat? Do you have it stocked up or just not eat that much meat? I saw the roasts, salmon, tuna and some processed meats. That's where a huge chunk of my grocery budget goes. And I never spend more than $1.99/lb for any type of meat.

On another note, I noticed you buy yeast and you go to Sam's. Here's a tip for you...Buy the yeast at Sam's. It's TWO pounds for a little over $3. You got about an ounce for $1.18.

I buy meat mostly when it is marked down. Some months I buy alot of it is marked down.I have a freezer full of it right now so I can only buy what I can fit in there. If you go to bethany's other site you can see other months I have posted. That would help better to see my menu's,what I had on hand and so on.

Thanks for the tip on the yeast.I will have to see how making homemade pizza crusts go first before I purchase a bigger package of it.I only got it smaller since it was cheaper and I do not know if I will be sticking to homemade or buying it depending on how much time it takes, cost so on.If I do I will be buying the yeast in bigger packages. Thanks

I wanted to add another comment and it slipped my mind until I hit submit. We do have meals with out meat too.I do meatless soups, egg salad sandwiches, big salads with out meat and lots of veggie pita pockets. It keeps the budget down.Well that is what I tell dh and it is true but I am trying to get us all to eat a little healthier too.I also do not cook anything in oil.I haven't in a couple years.I try to figure out how to make what we used to eat fried and make it with out being fried.Sorry I got off the subject. If anyone has any meatless meal Idea's I would love to hear them.

For more about meat we use ground turkey.I buy it for .79 cents a pound and usually buy 6-12 rolls at a time and have it in the freezer.Roast I buy 2/for $5.00 marked down at sams.I buy my chicken breast and tenders in the big bags frozen boneless when on sale at Meijers when they are buy one get one free only.I get all hot dogs, sausage for buns, kielbasa or smoked sausage for .99 cents marked down or on sale.I hardly ever buy any meat regular price.

HTH.When I got into a store I head for the meat section and get the meat deals first and then go on to finish my grocery shopping. As soon as I get home I package it up and get it in the freezer right away.
