Glad This is Overwith!

Today, Noah was in a rowdy mood...more than usual.  After lunch, I finally told him it was time for bed. I was about ready for a nap.

I sent him to bed, and I got on the computer to check my email.

About 10 minutes later, I heard this peculiar sound.
I turned around, and shockingly what I saw was our 30 gallon fish tank FALLING to the floor.   There was nothing I could do...it happened so quickly...

CRASH!!!!

It fell to the floor, shattering into a million tiny pieces when it landed.

I started shouting, "Oh my goodness! ......Oh my goodness! ........What happened! ........What in the world!" and tried to piece together whether this had really happened or not. I just wasn't ready for that kind of thing!

Then, when I finally gathered myself, and realized it had in fact happened, I noticed that Noah was standing on the fish tank stand.   I realized that he had actually somehow stood on top of the tank stand, and PUSHED the tank off of it's stand.  I have no idea how he was able to do this. That tank is really, really heavy!

Now there were fish on the floor, flopping around, rocks, water, and tiny pieces of glass all over the floor.  I told Noah to get in the bed, as he was about to step on the pieces of glass.   I picked up the fish, and put them in a bowl of water, then got some towels and dustpans and a broom.

It took me about an hour, but I was able to get all of the mess up.  It is NOT easy to mop up 30 gallons of water off of the floor. It took 3 blankets, and a few towels, and then I still had to let some of it just air dry.   2 Hefty bags later and all the rocks were picked up.

The fish were able to be transferred to my brother in law's fish tank next door, so at least they didn't die. The kids were devastated at the thought. lol

Soooo.. .that's how our day went today.  The one good thing I can think of is that I am SO thankful we don't still have carpet in our livingroom anymore.   We would never have been able to get rid of the smell.    Mopping it up was so much easier than steam cleaning, which we would have had to do otherwise.

Yikes, yikes and yikes---reminds of the day I found one of our fish in the sink, half down the drain. It seems that 3 of 8 thought that Bubbles ironically needed a bubble bath, panicked when he realized it wasn't going so well and proceeded to let the water out of the sink--however, no glass, carpet, multiple fish involvement was recorded--this definitely earns some kind of merit badge in the Mommy Scouts!

My husband has a 20 gallon tank. When our niece was smaller, we were always afraid of that happening. At least he wasn't hurt, but I don't envy you the mess-and when you already wanted a nap!

Wow, that reminds me of the time that I was painting our living room and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. I thought the kids were napping. I came back and found a whole gallon of white paint all over the blue carpet. My daughter had woken up and decided to "help" We eventually just had to rip up the carpet.

Octamom, how funny! oh my goodness... lol

Emily and Linda, I was also very thankful that he wasn't hurt. I could only imagine what could have happened if he had pulled instead of pushed. That is so scary to think about!

Angie, how awful! A whole gallon- yikes! I had a very similar experience with our carpet. I paint a lot of murals around the house, and I had left the paint out one night without meaning to...and Caleb and Bonnie were still toddlers. While my husband and I were still in bed the next morning, they dumped the paint out, stepped in it, put their hands in it, and walked and crawled all over the floor. There were hand and feet prints EVERYWHERE when we woke up!! My husband and I spent about 4 hours scrubbing the paint off the floors. I don't know how we even were able to get it all off, but we were desperate.

This reminds me of a story myself. When I was in college I took a literacy class and we had to write a short story about a childhood memory. One of my classmates wrote a story about when he was in second grade and decided he wanted to carry a huge glass of red kool-aide into his parents living room which had WHITE carpet. (where they were not allowed to eat or bring drinks) Well we all know what happened of course he dropped the glass and it got everywhere. All over the white carpet He was so afraid of getting in trouble for spilling by accident that he told his mom that a swarm of bees came in, scared him and he dropped the glass. I'm sure his mom was laughing on the inside when she said, "well i'm just glad you're okay" Everyone in my class could not stop laughing. We convinced him to send the story to his mom. We reassured him that seen it had been about 15 years he probably wouldn't get into trouble.

Amy, you're right, there is always something to be thankful for, no matter what happens.

Esther, I did almost jump out of my skin when I heard it! LOL

JM, that is hilarious! I bet his mother got a huge kick out of that. If it were me, I would save it.

If we had a fish tank, that would happen to us. I'm so sorry it happened, but I'm so glad that no one was hurt.

If you're thinking about replacing your tank, take a look at these. This is what I would like to get in our next house (no room for one now).
