On my 11th birthday we had Christmas as usual. We had opened all of our gifts and once again, I did not get a horse. All I asked for since the time I could write was a horse. I would never put anything else on my wish list in fear that my parents would get me that and not the real horse that I wanted so badly. Well I thought another year had gone by and no horse, until we went out into the barn to feed the sheep and I heard a whinny.... what a sound! It brings back the memory of Christmas that year when I hear a horse whinny to this day.

My dad use to take just me to Dunkin Donuts and we would sit up on the bar stools at the counter. I could pick out any donuts I wanted and have all the chocolate milk I wanted. I felt like a very important person, and it was actually only the few times my dad spent any time with me.

hmmmm. That's a tough one. I when just my mom and I went on a trip. To be fair, I was 20 by then, but that'll have to count. Although, when I was much younger (early teens) my parents took us there as a family one year and it was heavenly!

My favorite childhood memory is:
My grandmother had been promising to take me on a picnic for a month. The day finally came & I was sure she'd cancel because it was pouring down rain. I was so excited when she picked me up & said we were going any way. We went, picked up Kosher dog's & potato salad and on our way we went. We drove for what seemed to be miles. We actually had to turn back after a while because part of the road had washed out. We found a huge tree, got our stuff & sat under the leaves & branches so we'd have some shelter from the rain. It was one of the best days of my childhood!!

My favorite childhood memory is that every Saturday night I would get to spend the night with my grandmother. We would get up early Sunday morning and make biscuits, eggs, and bacon. We would go to church and I would wear her pantyhose that were three sizes too big. I still remember sitting in Sunday school pulling them up.

I love your blog bethany! I am such a lurker, ever since I saw you on PH, so I hope you don't mind!
Let's see...my favorite childhood memory would have to be when I was 15. I graduated very early from school, and helped out at home. My mother and I ran a bakery out of our small kitchen at home. It was just starting out at the time. We planned on taking a couple of hundred mini cakes, pies, and cookies to a flea market to get our name out. We wanted everything to be fresh as possible, so we thought we would stay up late to finish off baking the night before. We had to get it done. Well midnight turned into 1, 2, 3 o'clock..by 5:00am we were beyond tired and onto the silly stage you get when you are over-exhausted. Mom dropped a cup of flour all over the floor, and we ended up laughing hysterically. We couldn't stop and ended up rolling around on the floor because everything was hysterical all of a sudden. I remember my dad coming in to go to work and just looking at us, lying on the floor laughing with tears in our eyes. (Covered in flour and everything else from baking for the past 8 hours) He didn't even say a word and turned around and left. I can only imagine what he thought! I still remember that morning every time I cook with her at her house.

By the way, the bonnet you made for your daughter is absolutely adorable! I have had a really hard time finding a bonnet pattern I like for my little girl, and they don't seem to turn out right but this one would be perfect!

Glad you don't mind! Life with the children has been busy and wonderful. Baby is growing up so fast. In the past I've always been "expecting" way past now, so I dunno what God has planned with this break. Praying for another blessing, and also hoping to hear of one for you soon also.
As for the bonnet, I would be glad to do that...lemme know what you are thinking. And no hurry though. I have 11 sewing projects sitting on my sewing table all cut out and ready to go...but no motivation or time to do them. Another cute pattern right away for the hat and I might feel a "bit" overwhelmed. =o}

I have been searching for the right place to be, or talk with someone online regarding my current situation. I have three teenage children, and recently found out I have misscarried a fourth child, though my tubes were tied over 12 years ago, I did not even know I was pregnant until I started cramping and had some bleeding and was seen in the ER. This would be my first child with my new partner that I love deeper than I ever thought possible, a true friend and soul mate. The baby is about 8 weeks, and I decided to return home to let the baby pass naturally, through unforseen circumstances my partner can not be with me physically right now, and I am feeling quite alone and not really sure what to expect. I am just waiting, sadly for this little life to come. Please let me know if there is a good site to communicate with others that have had or are experiencing the same. Thank you

My favorite childhood memory, huh? Hmmm.Oh! I know!! I was in 7th grade, my sister in 5th. We were living in a really bad neighboorhood ... and we were always one paycheck away from losing our power or the apartment. Things were kind of rough.
One day, my parents announced that they had a business meeting downtown (we were living in Norfolk, VA at the time). A legal matter of some sort, they said. And they didn't have anyone to babysit for us, so we had to come along too. They asked us to pack up a small bag of things to keep us occupied, cuz the meeting could take awhile. While they were getting dressed, we got some books and stuff together to do while they were doing what they needed to do. Then we all go in the car and headed downtown.
When we got to where they said they were having their meeting, we noticed A LOT of kids. So we asked my mom and dad about it and they told us that there was some sort of kid's show going on in an auditorium, but we weren't going to be going to it. They had their meeting afterall. We were bummed, cuz all the kids looked REAL excited. Wouldn't you know they led us right towards where all the kids were going? Told us their meeting was in a room past the "auditorium".
We get to the huge "auditorium" and my mom and dad look back at us and say "SURPRISE!"
We were confused at what the surprise was, but when we looked into the 'auditorium' we saw BARNUM&BAILEY CIRCUS!!! It was our first time EVER to a circus!
They got us good, but it was AWESOME!!!

For one singular "best childhood memory," I would have to say when my grandparents (who raised me) took me to Disney World when I was in 2nd grade. At the time, I was totally into Mary Poppins, and there was nothing better than seeing her in person and getting my picture taken with her! I even had a sun parasol like hers, which I drug around the entire park. I still have the pictures. My kids think it's awesome that Mommy met the "real" Mary Poppins.
I'm glad you posited this question. I've been thinking on it all day, and had so many wonderful memories that it was really hard to pick just one. I'm glad that I can say that about my childhood.

Bethany, thank you for your blog. Its always a joy to read!
My favorite childhood memory takes me back to when I was eight years old. It was a warm summer evening, the sun was just starting to show its rosy colors as it slipped to the horizon. My little brother and I were riding our bikes on the sidewalk in front of our house, my four year old sister was playing on the lawn and my parents were sitting on the front porch with my newborn sister. I remember stopping on the sidewalk and just taking it all in- my brother and sister playing, my parents looking so happy as they held their new baby and watched us play. My heart was so full that night. I remember thinking that life was just beautiful and perfect!
That memory still serves me well when life shows its harsher side. I've added other good memories over the years with my husband and my own babies but that one always takes me back to that "hearts about to burst with joy" feeling that the innocence and wonder of childhood magnify. My family was very blessed and very happy that night. And I was so thankful!

Being one of 9 kids, we didn't have a lot of 1-on-1 time with either of our parents - particularly our dad, who worked 2 jobs at times to provide for all of us. My favorite memory is from when I was about 5-6. Saturday was always bath night (to be fresh and clean for church on Sunday!), and after I was done with my bath, I would park my child-sized chair in front of my father's recliner in the living room. While my mom was busy bathing my 3 younger brothers, my dad would lovingly brush the tangles out of my long, wavy hair. What always struck me by this was the fact that his hands (so dirty and rough from working in a factory and doing work with the animals on the farm), were so gentle when he brushed my hair. It reminds me of that song, "There was always love in Daddy's hands."

OK, to be fair this was last summer! I was 31...my hubby and I went to my sis's house, because my bro was coming up from Florida. (we stayed a few days) One nite, it was pretty late, my hubby and my sis's hubby went off to bed.
It was just my sister, brother and I. we ended up watching tv, all 3 of us on the couch. Growing up, this would NEVER happen! EIther my sister was out partying (she's 6 yrs older than me) and my brother was in bed (he's 5 yrs younger than me). And it was rare that none of us were fighting lol.
So we all sat on the couch and watched the Office (on Demand) and we laughed and laughed. I wish we had a photo taken. I cried whe I told my hubby about this on the way home. It was just so touching to me.
We must've spend most of the night up. I don't think I went to bed until 3 am. I wouldn't take it back for the world.
I'm sad that I couldn't think of any childhood memories. Not saying my childhood was bad, it had it's moments, we always had money growing up, so there wasn't anything we wanted that we didn't get.
I'm sad to think my memory is that bad.

I grew up on a farm in Kansas and my favorite thing to do as a child was play in the wheat truck during harvest. My sister and I (and our cousins when they visited) would sit at the top of the huge pile of wheat and slide down it as the truck bed was raised. As the wheat released into the grain bin auger, we slid down and climbed back up as much as we could until the wheat pile diminished. We screamed when the grasshoppers in the wheat touched us! We loved riding on the combine with my dad and our mom drove the wheat truck. What fond memories I have of every summer's wheat harvest and our family fun together.

My favorite childhood memory is of my grandfather. He would always make little inventions for me. Some of his inventions were little machines that were fun to watch and a stick with a claw grasper at the end that we could pick things up with (or get things that would have been out of our reach!)
Good Luck everyone!
