Kitchen Launderette in Progress
My laundry corner of the kitchen has always bugged me. I wish it was separate from the kitchen, but not much I can do about that. I usually just try to ignore it, but the other day, I saw a picture of a beautiful laundry room, and I thought...why can't mine look a little better?
I cleaned up the area around the washer and dryer, took all the paintings and stuff off of the wall, and repainted the walls white, to take a before shot:

Those black lines? They are black electrical tape.....I was trying to make a level line for the shelves to be placed on, and I couldn't find anything else, so I used tape.
It was only temporary!
Next, I started some underdrawings for some cute vintage signs that I thought would be perfect for the laundry area (and also will go along well with my diner mural!)

Here is yesterday's progress on the signs (two of them in the works - two left to go!). I added shadows to them to make them "pop". It's really weird. When I am walking into the kitchen, I am actually fooled by the signs...they look like they're popping out, because of the shadows. It makes you feel like you could take one off the wall... I love that!:

And James put the shelves in yesterday!! He did an excellent job on them....I love having the new space for my detergent and other stuff....

Now I just have to paint two more signs, and add a few other finishing touches... I'll be updating soon! It feels so nice to have this area of the kitchen looking nicer!

Update: Just added a little clothesline to the bottom shelf.... made them out of felt.

Suggestion...maybe you can find one of those room dividers? Not the ugly accordian room dividers. More like a screen? You know three boards, w/hinges on the sides to connect the,? KWIM? I'm sure you could paint them, if James built you one. Just an idea, that way you don't have to look at that area.
I do like what you did tho. My parents owned two coin laundromats. SO the bottom sign reminded me of that. The clothesline is darling!

I agree with Tia, I think that would be a great idea. I went into google, typed in room dividers and this site came up. http://www.stacksandstacks.com/html/product98_0.htm
I'm sure with more research you could find one you'd like to buy, or as Tia meantioned have James make you one.
But the shelves and the paintings look amazing! You are a great artist!

Tia, thank you for the suggestion, and JM thanks for the link! I would do a room divider but I think the kids might knock it over (nothing easily moved like that lasts for long in our house! LOL) I have thought of putting a curtain up, but dont know if I'll ever do it. But I'm actually much happier with that corner, now that it's being painted!
Jen L, M, and Carol, thank you!!
