What a day, yesterday!
Yesterday's Once a Month Shopping turned out to be longer than I anticipated!
At 11:30, I had the kids all dressed and ready to go. First, we went to Burger King to get lunch. Then, I took the kids to Books A Million to get us all a "snow cream" drink. It was really hot outside, so that was refreshing.
After we were filled, we went to the grocery store, and started shopping. I usually go to the Walmart Super Center to do my grocery shopping, but recently have changed to a smaller, local store called "Foodland"...so I wasn't as familiar with this store....It took me nearly 2 hours to get the first half of my grocery list! This is all with my kids all with me.
Finally, I am at the cash register, getting my stuff checked out... I'm ready to put the dry and non- perishable items away in the truck and come back for the cold items. I wait for the cashier to tell me the total, so I can get them out, and then.......
........instead of the usual "200.00", that I hear, I heard the cashier say,
"That'll be 513.85."
I looked at her, stunned, thinking I had heard her incorrectly.
I said, "How much was that again??"
She said, "513.85."

"WHAT!!!" , I thought.
I was extremely unhappy with myself! I thought, "Oh no, I can't believe that I made so many purchasing mistakes!!!!? I was sure that I had kept it under 200! James is gonna be shocked!", but I looked at the buggy which was overloaded with groceries, and thought, maybe it was true.
So I swiped the card, paid for the groceries, and went outside to put them in the truck.
Looked at the receipt, and sure enough:

I got all of the kids strapped in, and was wondering if I should even consider coming back for the meats and dairy, since I had already spent so much....I couldn't even bear the thought of spending another $120.00!
I asked Caleb to give me the notepad he was drawing on, and the pen. I took the receipt (which was about 4 feet long) and I started writing down all of the purchase amounts on the paper, and adding them up. I got about halfway down the receipt, and I had only come up with 100.00. I stopped, considered this for a minute, and then decided to look at all the purchase amounts before adding anything again.
Then, all of a sudden, here is what I found:

Do you see it? I was charged $245.52 for a .36 cent bag of alphabet noodles!
Once I found this I laughed and felt SO relieved!! I was so thankful that it wasn't my mistake!
I went back in, and told the woman who rung me up, "Um, I'm sorry to bother you again...but I think you might have charged me $245.00 for a bag of noodles...."
You should have seen the look on her face! LOL
Once I got it all straightened out, I got all of the rest of the shopping done, and went home. On the way home, in the truck, I somehow I got stung by one of these things:

Twice! (I had to pull over and get the thing to fly out the window)... but other than that, the rest of the day went fine!
I will be doing prep work today, and soon I will have the list ready for all of you to use, if any of you can use it!
Have a great day!

Good thing you stopped and went over the receipt....the money these stores make on their mistakes comes out of our pockets...good catch. shelly
what is that bug? looks like a mud dauber but can't tell for sure.

Yes, it's a dirt dauber...only the one that stung me had two yellow circles on it. Don't know exactly what name it has, but it looked just like the one pictured, but with two yellow dots.
It stung me in the exact same spot on my arm that I was stung by a wasp only 2 days ago! Ouchie!
How are you doing, by the way?

I am ok. It has been a long week with Jasmine gone now. My husband and I have both been in tears most of the week. We have no contact with her so it is nerveracking to not know anything that she is going through...but that is the military life. I have been praying about it and even asked God to give me peace when she went to sleep at night..guess what? around 10:00ish I feel like she is ok and don't worry. My kids all started back to school on Thursday and they started riding the bus this year so my son is kinda agitated about that. Work is busy but I am only working nights and weekends now so other than not seeing my kids much it is ok. I really miss my kids when they go back to school..one thing I loved about homeschooling was they were with me most of the time. I found myself tonight at work really thinking of the baby I lost but am just praying everytime I get sad. I was on anti-depressants but have decided to stop them for now to see if my body and mind can grieve without the medication. Other than that I am good and God is very merciful and loving and teaching me a lot about that right now in my life. Have a wonderful night and week..shelly

Hi Shelly -
You have alot going on right now! Be very careful with the antidepressants. I have been on and off of them for about 10 years now. Depression can get worse if you are not being monitored when decreasing the dose. Did you tell your Dr. you were getting off of them? Do you have a support system - honest people who will tell you the truth if you start to get real depressed? Please be very careful. If you need someone to talk to, let me know and I'll give you my personal e-mail address.... Valerie

Valerie,
Thanks for the response. No, I have not told my doctor. I was feeling like a freak for needing medication to get over this. The last couple of nights though I have been having trouble sleeping again. My dose is already the lowest, but after reading this and the sleep issues again I will start back up until I can talk to my doctor again. I had an appointment 1 month ago but due to my heavy work schedule and with all of the stuff to do to get my daughter off to boot camp I did not go..I will reschedule this week. Thanks for the advice. Sure, we can exchange e-mails. Yes, I would like to think my husband would be honest with me but before he did not see what I was feeling because I was not sharing much with him..when I thought one day about driving into a tree on the way to pick my kids up from school that was when I decided to get help. I wish there was not such a stigma with depression issues. I have a friend whom I have pretty much parted ways with tell me that it was just the devil on me...I after that felt like a freak, as I was saying earlier, so I have just kept my own feelings to myself again..so as not to evoke people's opinions on the subject. Thanks again, and I will restart them this week.

shelly,Be sure to be eating right and taking vitamins to help you with the stress.Read your Bible daily.I am in a like battle, myself. After over thirteen years of raising four grandchildren,my son came one afternoon four months ago, and took them all, having had little time in their lives. There are no grandparent rights in our state. We are devistated. My blood-pressure is out of control, and the doctor says it is because the children are gone. When their father was in Iraq,I experienced the crying and sleepless nights, also.God brought him home safe. Try to count your blessings.I know it is hard when you ache so much from loss.I still cry and have sleep problems.Praying for you,Sandra

Wow, I was really worried for you when I started reading! That is so funny about the noodles... and very relieving I'm sure! What a strange mistake.

That is a pretty strange mistake. I used to work at a grocery store and to be honest i'm not sure how something like that could happen.
Sometimes customers make mistakes too, I don't know how many times customers have walked out of the store without paying for their soda underneath their cart. hehehe I was usually pretty good about making sure that this didn't happen to me. But every once in awhile it happens. I'm sure it was an accident, perhaps the girl was new or something. Glad you caught it though. Strange mistake indeed.

I used to work as a grocery checker, too, and it isn't that unusual for something to ring up the wrong price - but not $245!!
Owiee! Those bugs look yucky! I don't think we have them in WI - we do have the earwigs, which really creep me out.

Wow! So good that you caught that, esp before going home & telling hubby your total. I'm sure he was relieved too. I'm looking forward to seeing your lists and cooking results again. I just wish we had a larger freezer but maybe I can try out twice a month cooking or something. And bad bad bug. I've never heard of that type of bug. I guess you have a 'sweet spot' on your arm, according to the bugs at least.
*Oh and I love your use of Lucy's face - perfect!

That face on Lucy is EXACTLY how I felt when I heard that amount! LOL I thought I was going to have a heart attack!
I think that the mistake was that the woman (who, by the way, was probably in her 70's) had asked the stock boy to do a price check on an item...when she typed in the price, she typed it in incorrectly, making it somehow say that I had purchased 682 bags of that same bag of noodles! That's why on the receipt you will see "682 @ .36 " above the amount of $245.52.
JM, I have been guilty of accidentally walking out of the store with something on the bottom of the cart. It's awful when I realize it's happened, especially when I have all three kids with me and I have to unstrap them and take them all in to pay for a 1.00 item. LOL

That is insane! I probably would have just been so embarassed and not even checked the reciept. Good for you!

Wow, I'm glad you looked at your receipt and noticed the error, thats a lot of a bag of noodles! LOL
But I've found I have a new appreciation for american store clerks, they have to stand up all day and a lot of the times bag the stuff themselves. At the grocery stores in Italy (maybe also in other European countries, I don't know) the clerks got to sit down the whole time and you had to bag your own groceries, plus you had to pay for the bag!

Yes... when I worked at a grocery store, my boss would get upset when I would lean against something when I didn't have customers. We had to stand up straight the whole time. I would have someone bag the groceries for me when it was a big order but the smaller ones weren't to bad. Sometimes people wanted to bag their own.
Thats crazy about having to buy your own bags in Europe! Well I guess there were a few times I had to pay to use the bathroom when I traveled there. hehe
