Preparing Grocery List for August OAMC
I will be compiling a grocery list and recipe list for August's Once a Month Cooking, and I wondered if any of you have suggestions for great tasting recipes that you'd like to share? I may include them in my lists.

Mrs. Pear, thank you for your response! I will be adding your recipes for Chicken enchiladas and Orange Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry in my OAMC this month!! They sound absolutely delicious!

Funny you should ask, I am doing a freezer series on my blog and am sharing a lot of my favorite recipes (just click on either freezer cooking or recipes on the side bar if you don't want to browse through!)

I used to work at one of the dinner places (privately owned), and this is one recipe I really liked since it was a bit different. My sister doesn't like the soup mix, so we leave it out and it works fine.
Green-Eyed Monster Burgers
Serving Size : 6
1/2 cup dill pickle juice
3 tablespoons onion soup mix
2 pounds Ground Beef
42 Each dill pickle slices
Please wash your hands before beginning this recipe.
For this recipe you will need:
large mixing bowl and spoon.
6 foil sheets sprayed with cooking spray
plastic bag
Place ground beef in mixing bowl and add:
1/2 cup pickle juice
3 Tbsp onion soup mix.
Mix thoroughly. Divide into 12 thin patties.
Arrange 5-7 pickle slices in the center of six patties; cover with remaining patties and seal edges well. Place each completed burger on sheet of sprayed foil and wrap up tight. Place in plastic bag, and label.
Thaw completely. Pan fry in non-stick fry pan or broil/grill for 5-8 minutes on each side.
NOTES : Variation: Mold burgers into hot dog shaped patties and use in hot dog buns.

Hi Bethany! First let me start out by saying how much I enjoy your posts! I am just starting to plan for once a month cooking since my husband only gets paid once a month (He is in full time ministry at our Church) So I am having to adjust to a different way of life. I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me a copy of your grocery list for August when you complete it. I would appreciate any and all input. Be Blessed!

I use this site for most of my freezer cooking - they have thousands of OAMC recipes.

They also have great recipes for snacks for children that you can keep handy in the freezer. My girls love the yogurt fruit bars and kid friendly veggie muffins on the site.

A lot of time, for me, it has been trial and error. But I get a lot of recipes off of other Once a Month Cooking sites....and one of them actually has rules as a guideline to know what foods dont' freeze well. Here is the link:

And here is more from her site...she has a lot of good information! She is one of the first sites I came to to learn about Once a Month Cooking!

Hi Bethany!
Sweet Salsa Dump Chicken

Pizza Style Spaghetti
(http://busycooks.about.com/od/pastacasserolerecipes/r/pizzaspaggstyle.htm)
This recipe made A LOT - you could probably split it into several pans.
Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup
(http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slow-Cooker-Chicken-Tortilla-Soup/Detail.aspx)
Easy to make while the stove/oven are in use - freeze with a bag of tortillas and prepare those on re-heating day!
Tortilla Casserole
(http://www.recipezaar.com/recipe/getrecipe.zsp?id=109503)
I made this in a 9x13" pan; mixed the sour cream and beans together with some salsa to make the mixture more spreadable; also did not bake before freezing; put cheese in a ziploc baggie and taped to the dish.
Thanks for being so generous and always sharing your grocery list and recipes with us - I've tried numerous dishes from your OAMC cooking sessions.
