Just not sure

Today I went to the doctor, and she seemed just as mystified as I was about the fact that I had a period just two weeks ago and the hcg levels are high enough to test positive on a test.   Especially since it happened right on time and seemed completely normal.    She took my blood and will be taking it again Friday to compare the levels and see if they are rising or dropping.   I'm concerned.  I have been searching online for answers.    I found many places saying that if you spot after 2 weeks you probably miscarried early, too early for most people to detect it.   I don't know if that's true or not because the line was so bold.   I also saw other sites that said some women have what seems to be a period and actually isn't,  right at the beginning of thier pregnancy...and their pregnancy turns out fine.    I guess what I will have to do is wait and see what the doctor thinks...I wont know till Monday how the blood tests compare.

Monday is a long time to spend not knowing....but congratulations! if indeed all is going well; I will pray that it is

Could I ask that you pray for me as well? I'm getting on an airplane for the first time ever on Sunday, travelling to Italy for a month, and I'm very nervous about flying (i.e. crashing). Any prayer for a safe journey would be greatly appreciated.

Again, I hope that when you get your blood work back, everything is ok and your baby is healthy. I think you are a great person and you deserve this happiness.

Good luck on the airplane. I hate to fly! Chewing Gum at take off and landing helps me. Oh - and also several motion sickness pills! Have fun in Italy!

Bethany I know women who had their period their whole pregnancy! I know it's rare but it's happened. I do not know what is causing you to have bleeding and all that. No clue really but it isn't odd. I hope that it's just that implantation spotting. Have you read much on that? I know that is very common. Some women bleed more than others. I have heard many stories on other message boards about women bleeding and it being nothing. Sometimes we just can't predict what our bodies are trying to do. =/

Oh Bethany! I will be praying. First of all congratulations! I know the HcG run around is frustrating, but I will be praying for GOOD NEWS.

For what it's worth, my mom had a full period the month I was conceived.

Hi Bethany! I have never posted before but I have been reading your site for a little while. Anyhow, I have several friends who had what they thought was a period and then turned out to be pregnant a couple of weeks later. Boy were they stumped!
With both of my pregnancies I had quite a bit of light bleeding through the first trimester. It was definitely scary for me but both of my girls turned out just fine. I also had to do the blood tests comparing the hcg levels and know how taxing it is to wait for the results.
You and your family are in my thoughts.

Do you have normal periods? Do you know if you ovulate when your suppose to? I'm asking because I have sporadic ovulation and didn't know until I was trying to get pregnant. What happened with Danny is that I ovulated right before my period, had a regular period and somehow implantation happened during my period. If I didn't know about the sporadic ovulation, I would have been very confused. (This is why natural family planning won't work with me. Tests showed that I can ovulate several times a month or not at all!) So I guess what I am saying is that if ovulation happened at the wrong time, then your periods and your symptoms will not be according to "textbook".

I will be thinking of you this weekend and on Monday. God is with you.

Was the period two weeks ago a "normal" period for you? Could have been implantation bleeding, a totally normal part of conception.

I had two losses before I had my son and it really does change how you approach pregnancy. Everything is that much more fragile and that much more precious.

I'll keep you and your little one in my prayers as you wait for results. Be gentle with yourself.

Jk, I will pray that your trip will be safe. I would be nervous on a plane trip too. I have never been on one before. Take care!

Sandi, Kelly, Tara, and Lola's mom, thank you for your comforting words.

Lauren, that really gives me hope. Thank you so much for letting me know that.

Valerie, you too! I did not know that was possible!

I do have normal periods, in answer to some of your questions. They are very predictable, usually every 28-29 days. I was expecting that period to come, and it came...and it seemed normal at the time, though maybe if I had paid more attention I might have noticed differences?

I just wanted to let you know that when I was pregnant with my third child I went to my first doctor's appointment at 8 weeks. When he heard a heartbeat he said that I must be further along. He ordered an ultrasound and sure enough I was 12 weeks along. I had a period (normal and on time) at 4 weeks pregnant. Your body does weird things sometimes!!! Congrats and I hope that everything turns out ok.

Hi Bethany--it's Leah from Jill's website. I was wondering if you could refer me to a few of the websites that say that some women have when seems like a normal period at the beginning of pregnancy. I would appreciate it.

Hope everything turns out okay for you!

    Love,

    Roxanne, thank you so much.

Shiela, I am so sorry for your loss. I am thankful that you have found God's love through it all. God truly does show His love through our deepest trials. Thank you for your words.

Leah, here are some that I found...I can find more possibly if you need them:

    http://www.babyhopes.com/articles/pregnantperiod.html

    http://www.babycenter.com/expert/preconception/gettingpregnant/1460117.html

    http://www.drspock.com/article/0,1510,6004,00.html

Here's a paragraph from the first link:

"However, it is not uncommon to find that many women do report getting what seem like regular periods during early pregnancy. The bleeding that pregnant women complain about though is not truly a menstrual period. It can be called as early pregnancy bleeding. The perception of having a menstrual period (or more than one) in early pregnancy can confuse the due date and delay some pregnant women from seeking appropriate and timely medical care. In instances where a couple is unaware that they are expecting, it can be particularly emotionally challenging to find out about the pregnancy at the same time they are told that the bleeding might signal a problem."

Hope this helps! And thank you for the well wishes.

    Hi Bethany,
I will most definitely pray for you. When I was pregnant with Christian, I had a feeling I was pregnant and I was only 4 weeks along. So while it may be soon, it can happen. You sound like me in being able to get a quick positive
    God bless,
    Sarah

    P.S. Looking forward to updates.

    Bethany,
After my three miscarriages the fertility specialist wanted to know the minute I was pregnant again (we did not do that) and told me symptoms, spotting, sickness, dizziness, etc could be felt as early as 8 days after conception. The spotting was probably the implantation of the egg; however since you have recently had a miscarriage you seem to notice "everything" this time. So don't be fearful, just relax and know MANY ladies are praying for you. ( their comments above show how many lives you have touched & their prayers are with you). God Bless sweet sister!

Bethany, I had implantation bleeding with both of my pregnancies. It was just what you described, light bleeding with the timing being completely 'off' to be a regular cycle.

I will be praying for you. I read your posts on the baby you miscarried, and I want you to know that your words were a blessing to me. I lost my second child at 8 weeks, and I will always grieve for her.
