Getting a list compiled for May's OAMC

Today I am working on getting a list compiled with new recipes and the grocery list for this month's "Once a Month Cooking" shopping.     I am looking forward to doing this again!

I have gotten back into the rut of not knowing what to fix till the last minute, and  it's not fun!

So far, I have Pork BBQ, Freezer Bagel Pizzas, Shredded Beef Tacos, Bacon Cheeseburger Rice (all those from Christy's Clipart), and Broccoli Stuffing Casserole.

Still have lots more to go..... Hopefully this will all be compiled by Monday.

You can go here to see my previous posts about Once a Month Cooking.

    Bethany,

I can't wait to see your posts on this. I had oamc on the brain today and stopped by Christy's Clipart site. She has a short video clip on how to debone a chicken breast on there. Didn't know if you had seen that. I can use a lot of inspiration in this area. I do some oamc, but want to do the full months worth soon.

Jaala, that sounds like fun!! Let me know if you see any good recipes you'd like to try.

Carol- LOL! Would you believe I was watching that very video today! I was also browsing her site and happened to notice she had new stuff up, and there was that video! It was very informative.

Oh and I'm thinking about posting pictures of my kitchen before the OAMC....during the OAMC, and AFTER the OAMC. What do you think? I think it might help to show how how much work is involved in the cleanup process!
You would be amazed at how terribly messy the kitchen gets in such a short amount of time. If you think of any other thing you'd like to see pictures of during the process, let me know.

I've been thinking about this for many many many months now. Everyone saids they save lots of money and time! Right now for a family of 5 (2 adults, and an 9, 4, 2 yr. olds) we spend about 120 a week. That includes everything we need...cleaning, tp, ect. I just don't have the room for a big freezer. But maybe I could just do a 2 weeks or something. Keep up the great work!

I feel like I've been living under a rock, this is the first I've heard about once a month cooking. I'll be checking back to see how it goes and if it's something I can handle.

Roxanne, I have heard that people have actually been able to fit an entire month's worth in their regular freezer! Is that amazing or what? .... I think they flatten the ziplock bags and lay them on top of each other. Honestly, I don't know if I could do it, but I know it's been done! Thanks for the encouragement!

Rebecca, don't feel bad! I only learned about Once a Month Cooking about 8 months ago. Before that, I had never heard about it. I decided to try it, and it ended up working for me!

Hi Bethany! I'll have to check back to see your pictures, if you post any. I did a huge OAMC session last summer/fall in preparation for our first baby (due early Nov.) and it was such a blessing! We didn't have to cook much all winter long. Now, however, since returning to work, I don't have time to do OAMC but I try to make a double batch of whatever I'm cooking that night and stash it in the freezer. I do try to buy ahead on things we use a lot and keep those on hand, too. The OAMC session was A LOT of work (especially 7-9 months pregnant!) but it's well worth it. Good luck! Can't wait to see the recipes - thanks! Oh, btw, the Bacon Cheeseburger Rice is REALLY good; I made several of those for my session on a whim and I was glad I did.

Thank you for the link, Tricia! I haven't seen that one before. I will be sure to browse it...and maybe find some recipes there today!

Vicky, thanks for the review on the cheeseburger rice...I've never had it before. Maybe I should triple it as well?
Wow, that is amazing that you made enough to last you an entire winter ! I doubt I would have the energy to complete that large of a task! Bravo to you!!

Thought I'd share this in case you were interested. The Maxwell's from Titus2.com have a recipe for burrito filling that sounds very good and like a great way to save money too. The link is http://www.titus2.com/Maxwells-burrito-recipe.htm.

    Enjoy!

Um, I meant to say that I'll be cutting the recipe in half. LOL!! It's majorly huge for a large family.

I think I'll be making it! I'll definitely have to half it also! haha that is a LOT of burrito mix!
I think i'll be individually wrapping them too, for convenience later...boy it will be time consuming. Wonder if I could teach my son to wrap them for me while I cook other things?

      Bethany,

That's a good idea to wrap them up. I read on the Titus2 cookbook site that Sarah Maxwell will be posting soon about how they make their own tortillas. I want to start doing this.
