Bird's nest and egg

Yesterday,  Caleb was climbing our little apple tree again....he loves it because the branches are low enough to climb up pretty easily.
I was in the kitchen making supper when Bonnie came in saying, "Mommy!  Caleb found a REAL little blue birds' egg!  Come and see!"
I went outside, and Caleb was carrying a birds' nest with an egg in his hands!  I looked inside, and there was a tiny blue egg, just like Bonnie told me.    I told the kids that they had to put it back, the mommy bird was probably very worried about it's egg.   if I was about to carry it to put it back in the tree, then, of course, I had to take a picture really quick...it was just so pretty.

While I was putting the nest back in the tree,  i could hear the bird (a Robin) chirping anxiously ...hopefully the Robin came back to the nest after I put it back.   I've heard sometimes they won't...but don't know if that's just an old wives tale or not.

I believe, that so long as the children didn't touch the egg it'self, the mother should still return. Keep an eye on it, and if she doesn't, put the egg in a small box with a lamp either in it or shining down on top of it, and that should act ike an incubator.

Also if you need to keep the egg inside make sure you don't cook the egg with a lamp. (Don't ask how I know!)

I've heard the same thing (about them not returning), but I don't know if it's true or not either.

... it is a very pretty picture!

Yes, it is truly amazing. I have no idea how they do such a beautiful job at it. I love looking at different nest designs...I could never be able to duplicate something so perfect.

I know this is old. BUt I did the same thing, I was around 8. My dad yelled at me, saying I basically killed the bird. Because the mom would never come back.

Yup, 24 yrs later I remember that!

Do you remember if the bird came back?
