Simplicity pattern 4127 looks nice!
I always look at shirts I'd like to buy, and even at Walmart, many times I just think they're too expensive. They're probably very affordable for most people, but I'm so used to buying clothes at thrift stores and garage sales that paying $15.00 for a shirt seems ridiculous to me, when I know how much other stuff I could buy with that money. (When I go into a clothing store and see prices like $65.00 I really freak inside! lol)
I always end up passing the aisles wistfully looking at shirts I'd like to have. Sometimes I do splurge, but most of the time not.
I found a great pattern for a shirt style that I really like...It's simplicity 4127. It has the shirt pattern in 6 different styles, and I love them all. Except the strapless ones, I'll just have to add my own straps to them.
Here is a shirt I made last night using the pattern. I am really happy with the way it turned out...and I realized that by just adding a small amount of extra fabric, I could make any of the shirts with this pattern into maternity shirts (when I'll need it again!).

So I spent 14.99 for the pattern....and I'm hoping that it will pay for itself in time by providing me several pretty shirts for the spring/summer seasons!
It was really simple to make and didn't take too long. (I paid 1 dollar for the yard of material- it was on sale!)

Bethany! this is so cute! You should make them to sell at etsy.com! I'd buy one! Ya know what? My sewing machine is STILL in its box. I'm kinda scared to start trying to use it. You are great inspiration, though!

Cute shirt!! Would it be easy for you to add extra fabric to it to make a cute sundress? I know nothing about sewing so I don't know if it's possible or not. I just think that it would make an equally cute dress.

Bethany, that shirt is adorable! I love to sew and haven't had much time for it lately. My little girls are begging for new summer skirts, though, so I'm thinking it is time to teach them to sew, too. I'm like you in that the prices of things just kill me! I look at a little cotton skirt that is $25.00 for an 8-year-old and just KNOW that I can make it for less than $1.00! It certainly gets me motivated.

Jaala, thank you so much for referring me to that site! I had never seen it before.. what a great way to sell your handmade gifts!
Becky, I never thought of that! What a great idea...I'll have to try it! I love sundresses!
Gena, lol, it's so true...why pay 25.00 for something you can get so much cheaper...and sometimes you can get something BETTER for the cheaper price. I'll bet your girls are going to be excited when you get your sewing machine out. Skirts are so much fun

It's pretty and so are you! I think it will pay for itself. I would have probably made it not so low cut perhaps. How long does it take you to whip up a shirt like that?

That looks great!I just read through the other comments and think it's amazing that everything you do is perfect! People even want to buy stuff from you, even though you just whipped it up for yourself.Wow!
Is there anything you can't do?!

Mema, it took me about an hour, maybe an hour and a half.
Samantha, don't be fooled...most everything I do is filled with imperfections. If you could see how many things I mess up and how imperfect everything that I have posted on here really is, you might be surprised.
Don't worry, I have many many flaws and imperfections in everything I do. I just try a lot of stuff out.

Ooh, I LOVE that shirt!!! When we get into our own place, i wanna learn to sew our own clothes ... but until then, I'm like you: I see $15 and I'm like, ugh, you gotta be able to find that cheaper! lol

You did a great job...I just bought the pattern yesterday..and I am making it today. Did you find the sizing of the pattern to be pretty accurate or did you adjust the size up or down... and did you use a knit fabric for the lining too? Just wondering, before I start cutting. Thanks for the great photo.
