Catastrophe of a cake
I think I have been overdoing it this last week! I've been soooo tired that I can barely think!
The day before yesterday, I was making hubby some coffee, and I put the coffee grains in the filter, then put the water in the pot, stuck it in the coffee pot and turned it on. About 10 mnutes later, I realized I had not poured the water into the coffee pot, so there was no coffee, and James had to leave before I was able to get it right.
Then, the same day, I was making some "egg bread" for sandwiches, and I was mixing the dough. At the same time as I was making the dough batter, I was making some ramen soup for the kids. The water was coming to a boil. I got an egg out of the fridge, and cracked it...and instead of putting it in the batter where it belonged, I dumped it into the boiling water! Ugh!
That wasn't my only mistake with the bread, unfortunately! I was looking at one page where the recipe was for the first half of the batter making...then I somehow switched to the other recipe on the page before it, and started adding all kinds of ingredients that weren't even supposed to go in that bread!
By the time I realized my mistake, it was too late to do anything about it, so I just decided to go ahead and mix it together and hope it would come out right!
The result was a good loaf of bread, thank goodness.

Yesterday, I was not as fortunate!
I found the most delicious looking chocolate cake recipe at the Making it Home website. You can see the recipe and pictures here.
I was in the middle of doing a couple of things as well as making the cake (something I do a little too often).... trying to multi task. Well, guess what I ended up doing? I left out the flour!!
I had already used almost an entire can of cocoa on this cake, and I left out the flour.
The house started to smell awesome...flooded with a chocolate aroma...I was so excited to eat this beautiful cake in a little bit. 10 minutes till it was to come out, I peeked in the oven, and what I saw about knocked my socks off.
There was a disgusting bubbly mess... no rising cake there...it was horrible! There was mostly liquid chocolate bubbles in there, nothing more.
I pulled the cake out of the oven, and tried to figure out what might have gone wrong! Then I realized.... Oh no, didn't put the flour in!
After using so much cocoa and other ingredients, I didn't want to give up on it just yet. So while it was still hot and bubbly, I poured it into a bowl and stirred in the flour....I thought maybe, just maybe this would be a good remedy for the situation, and that the cake would still turn out fine.
I was wrong! lol
Here is what the cake ended up looking like...

Don't be fooled, this is not solid...you could stick a spoon in it and pull out nasty sludge!
I just threw it out...and made some ginger snaps that night. lol At least THEY turned out well!

Oh my! I can totally relate, Bethany. I'm always trying to concentrate on more than one thing at a time....just the other day I washed a big load of laundry and forgot to put the detergent in it! LOL I've done that with the dishwasher, too....

Ooooooh I can TOTALLY relate!! I've totally spaced a lot of stuff too ... Jason and his family get a lotta kicks outta me lol. And, as with you, it's usually when I'm trying to do more than one thing at a time ...

Bethany,
I had to laugh when I read your entry. I have had so many cooking days like that. Just the other day I was making poundcake and only put 1/2 the eggs I was supposed to. I wondered why the batter was so thick! But... they were okay in the end.
I know how delicious that chocolate must have smelled. I hate it that you had to throw it out. Your bread look delicious, though!
Have a great weekend and try to get some rest.

Oh, I would never do something like this!
Actually, I just got done posting about a disaster of my own; then I came to your blog and saw this! Just had to link to it -- it's so... not-yummy looking!

Oh my! I can't tell you how many times I've done such ditzy things! Do you have a lot on your mind? I find I'm like that when I'm seriously pondering something. You know, I would've probably eaten that cake mess over vanilla ice cream! Yum!
