OAMC finished for January!

Today, I got ready for church and started to leave. I noticed that James was starting to do something in the kitchen.   He was going to stay home for today.

All morning, I was trying to figure out whether today I should get the rest of the cooking done, or wait till tomorrow.  When I got home after church was over, imagine my surprise when I saw this on the kitchen table!

James had seen how tired I was yesterday after getting done with the meals I prepared yesterday, and decided to do this to help me out!    Have I mentioned that he is the best husband ever?

I started helping him out so we could get it all done today...so got the dishes washed and he continued to cook...here is everything James cooked by 2:30 PM today:

Four of the dishes are Tamale Corn Casserole, there is one Magnificent Casserole dish, one Mexican Casserole dish, two burrito casserole dishes, two tuna casseroles (in bags), and one large bag of chicken quesadillas with flour tortillas.

Here is what our freezer looks like on the inside right now...it's stuffed!

Oh my goodness, Bethany! What an amazing husband you have! You lucky girl!

If you don't mind me asking...how much does it cost to do a month's worth? I am really interested. I hope you are feeling better today, now go give that wonderful husband a hug!

Thank you, Jill! Well the grocery bill ended up being $330.00 this month, although I did buy a lot more than was on the list. The list itself probably costs a lot less.
Also today we had to buy a little bit more tomato sauce and more flour tortillias, and it cost about $15.00. I am not the best planner, so I have left out a few things on the list!

WOW! What is your secret? I never get out of the store spending less than that for two weeks worth! Do you shop somewhere like Costco, or just a regular grocery store?

We actually go to the Walmart Super Center...the prices are always really low there, and I end up being pleasantly surprised with the bill!
I just bought the stuff on the list that I have posted before, (I did buy name brand stuff for most of the items too), and added the things I'd need for lunches, and then I was done!

The only time I really have a problem is when I go to the store hungry! Boy, will I over shop then!

Wow, that is so cool! I wish I had a freezer and the organizational skills to do that!

I am really bad at planning, though. I'd probably end up spending another $100 after doing all that.

Bethany, you are so lucky to have a great husband like that. And now, when the peak of morning sickness hits, you will not have to cook. What a great feeling! Sorry to hear you dropped a whole dish on the floor, that has happened to me too. No fun at all. I am going to try to get your recipe for some of these dishes and try them out. It is a snow day here for dh, so I am hoping to make a huge batch of meatballs for the freezer. Every little bit helps. So i try to put a couple of meals away at a time. But after seeing your meals all ready I am getting more and more inclined to try to whole thing. We will see!

Margaret,I went to your blog and you do an excellent job with groceries...I'm sure you could do it! The freezer is really necessary for us, since I use a lot of casserole dishes...but if you use only freezer bags and press them flat, I actually know of several people who have fit an entire months' worth in their fridge's freezer! It's amazing, but they have done it!

Jennifer, thanks so much for the encouragement! And I am sure you'll do a great job if you get started!
I just posted the Cinnamon bun recipe for you, since it's too long to fit here!

You have a gift! I would love some of your recipes! Also, I wanted to ask where you got those blue trays you have in your freezer? I have a chest freezer and it is such a mess! Those trays would definately come in handy.
By the way, aren't you blessed to have such a sweet hubby!
Thank you for taking the time to share all of this with all of us! Billie

Billie, thank you for your kind words! Actually, those trays came with the freezer...we bought the freezer new about 5 months ago when we first started OAMC (because we needed the space!). Here is a link to the one we bought from Lowes:

It was 598.00, and a great buy for us!
