Making lip balm
Today, Mary, (the other homeschooling mom I met the other day), came to visit me, along with her two sons! Caleb and Thane (her son) had a blast playing in the yard and running through the house. They sure did get excited ! They were so hyper they were bumping into everything and everybody, and we had to keep telling them to settle down. lol Bonnie also played with them. Noah played with the baby, Morgan, who is just 3 months younger than him.
Mary and I made some lip balm with the ingredients I got in the mail this week! It was so much fun..I wish I had been able to take pictures all the way through, but the batteries were dead.
First, we cut the beeswax....which was surprisingly hard! I don't know how it's supposed to be done, but trying to slice it in pieces with a knife is NOT an easy feat!
Once we had it cut in pieces, I put it into a glass canning jar, which was placed into a pot of boiling water.
The wax cannot be in the direct heat, or it can cause a fire. It had to be either done this way or in a double boiler, which I don't have.
We put in the coconut oil, the Orange oil extract, some vanilla extract, and it started smelling wonderful!
After about 10 minutes, it was melted well enough to pour in the containers.
I had all the containers banded together with tape, so they wouldn't drop all over the place as I was pouring it. Using a funnel, I poured the wax from the jar into a bottle with a squeeze top. We squeezed the wax from this bottle into all the containers. There was about 1/4 cup of wax leftover. It was impossible to squeeze the wax into all the containers without making some mess. Wax dribbled onto the sides of many of the containers. But that was easily cleaned off after the wax had cooled. Here is the result of our efforts:

I know, they're green and they should be orange or something since it's orange-vanilla scented, but I was only able to find that color with the transparency.
I think they turned out pretty well!
They aren't sweet to the taste, just smell really good. I could have put sugar or honey in them to give them some sweetness but didn't think of it in time.

I am just curious how you find the time to do all these crafty projects? Sewing, making lip balm and soap? I have 4 kids that I homeschool and I have hardly time to make muffins for breakfast. How do you do it? I think your kids are even younger than mine (mine are 8, 6, 4,& 2). I just don't ever have spare time like that. You seem to really enjoy it though, so that is good. I like reading your blog BTW.
